Hello guys.
Mr. Kaufmann will be happy to hear that my A320 simulator project is now well on it's way, with multiple packages as well as my new rig being shipped as we speak.
As I am approaching a more completed phase in my project, I'm looking into smaller details such as the headsets etc.
Currently I'm looking closely at this one : http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-ClearChat-Comfort-Headset-Black/dp/B000UXZQ42/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
However I am open to other options.
The requirments I am looking for it to meet are:
Light weight commercial aviation apperances (none of those big over-the-ear cups or heavy boom mikes)
Under $100
USB if possible
Comfortable
Sorry if this thread is a "repeat" of all the other "what headsets should I use" threads, however I've looked over all of them, but headsets suggested were usually the best overall headset and did not meet my requirment of appearing "commercial aviation-ey".
Thanks for the help! AK, pictures will be here as soon as the panels arrive!

I know you don't want the over-the-ear cups or heavy boom mics, but that is an aviation headset trademark. I haven't ever seen any of these streamlined PC sets in an airplane.

Take a look at that site, they have great products.

LOL - I know projects take a while - and I can't wait to see all of this come together - you've been working on it and planning for a while - which is admirable.
I use/have a Plantronics H31CD, I think I paid about45$ US for it.
Here's this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Plantronics-H31CD-Starset-Headset-Controllers-Dispatch_W0QQitemZ250086397414QQcmdZViewItemQQptZHeadsets?hash=item3a3a4f95e6
And I also purchased a USB adaptor for it.

Almost all headsets I've seen in modern commercial airliners use a "slim" and lightweight headset.
Also, I'm removing the Logitech one from the list becuase it only works with Windows XP, and I'm running W7.

Alex, I have noticed the same thing! I was talking about GA because I didn't read enough. They use it in GA to reduce the engine noise, sorry!

A new question for you guys: If a USB headset is compatible with XP, will W7 have cross-compatibility or enough in common to run it with W7?

You shouldn't have a problem, if anything you can go through the settings and set it to run in a compat. mode (I believe you can do this with headsets?)
Edit: I am using the Logitech ClearChat Comfort USB Headset (Black) now, I've noticed an issue where there is a bunch of feedback (Specifically with Vent, haven't confirmed feedback with ATC), so it's almost like queuing your mic when voice is coming through the speakers. I'm tempted to try the H31CD Starset Headset, it isn't a traditional set for an Airline pilot, but it seems to be nice.

Sorry to "bring this thread from the dead", but I'm still in search of a headset.
I'll post a picture of the one I used to use which I felt was pretty much what I'm aiming for now.
I've revised what I'm looking for now, so here it goes:
Adjustable boom mike
Adjustable headband, One-size-fits-all kind of deal
Comfortable
Light Weight
I'm good with either a single side or double side ear deal, but I'd like the ear-phones to be flat (like in the classic sony walkman earphones).
I'm now opening up the search to both USB and non-USB products, because I can easily pick up a jack to convert them at a local store.
Thanks for the help guys!

Just to throw something else out there, what do you guys think of this?
http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-PC-26-USB-Superior/dp/B001SN8QI6/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1257824824&sr=1-4
The only review availible is "clouded" by the fact that the person recieved the wrong product.
A dual-earcup one is also availible.

Well, several of the docs here use Sennheiser headsets for DNS dictation, after experimenting with many (if that tells you anything useful).

In almost all aircraft I've flown I've used a Airman 750 by Telex. You may be able to find a used one for under $100, it'll require an adapter for your PC though.

New question: Are there any volume control devices that can be connected to a headset that does not have volume control?
I.E. A volume wheel that the headset plugs into that then plugs into the computer.
Thanks for the help!

Alex,
I have a Saitex headset with: adjustable mic boom, volume adjustment on the outside of the ear cup and a mute button on the microphone front. On the negative side: the earcups are a little small for my big ears and on long flights they squeeze somewhat
