Just a quick question, why do you have to be qualified in the MD88 to fly the EMB 170?
Just curious, since the 170 is a regional airliner

Gary, pass the MD-88 FO test and then pass the CR and for the EMB 170 there isnt one but there is an ERJ 170/190 I think if you pass the MD88 CR you will get those ratings

Luis, how is there not an EMB170 rating (from what I understand), if you meant CR, there is none. Then you later say ERJ 170/190 which is wrong. ERJ applies to the 135, 145, and 145XR. EMB is applied to the 170(5) and 190(5). I was just confused.

Nicholas, if you look at your ratings you will see ERJ 170 not EMB 170. And for the CR yes i know there isnt one for that because there isnt a program for that. Im not exactly sure what CR it was for those ratings though. And here is the ERJ 170/190 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embraer_E-Jets

No I understand, what I need to do to fly the 170, but why is it in with mainline fleet, since it is considered a regional airliner? That's all
And if you want to get a 170/175 program going I have all the manuals, systems/performance/operating in PDF format

Gary, even thought the E-Jets are regional aircraft, they are about the same size and weight of a DC-9. So, yes they are regionals, but they are much closer in size to being Mainline aircraft than, say a CRJ is.

Luis,
The E-Jets are abbreviated differently than the Embraer Regional Jets. The Embraer Regional Jets (135/145 and all variants thereof) are abbreviated ERJ. The Embraer 170/175/190/195 are abbreviated EMB(for Embraer) 170/175/190/195.
If you look on their site, they advertise the ERJ 135, ERJ 140, ERJ 145, and ERJ 145 XR. The military versions of the ERJs are advertised as EMB 145 MP, etc. The 170 series is advertised as EMBRAER 170. But if you click on the page for it, it's titled EMB_170...

ive been trying to get an E-program going for a long time now but nobody has bitten on the idea. There are several of us here that are E-jet freaks and I think we have plenty of information to get it going ...
However, Who knows what will happen...

Hi there guys,
in Brazil, the E170 and the E190 (and its extended version E195) compete directly with the B737 and A319/A320 in the domestic routes. Remember Brazil is a very large country and some of the domestic routes can be as long as 2000 NM or close. Considering these distances and payload they carry it shouldn´t be an error to consider the E-jets as a mainline carrier. In fact, they have a higher performance than its little brothers, the ERJ´s. So, I think it should be considered as such.
Cheers!

EMB is actually un-knowingly miss-used by many. Embrear actually markets the E-Jets as E-170/175, etc. not EMB. The correct designation is ERJ-170/175/190. It is also written like this on all documents proffesionally and on the a/c certificate and type rating. EMB is only used on their prop variants and military jets and the 135s (EMB-135/140/140). Most say ERJ-145 but it is technically incorrect.
See the listing for Shuttle America and Republic and an a/c from Expressjet

It's a stage 2 aircraft, so pick a stage two CR, either the MD-88 or the 737 and you'll receive the ratings.
As far as an E-Jet program, we've discussed it before a few times and it never went anywhere due to other things being worked on behind the scenes. I may bring it up again in the near future, but for the time being it's in an indefinite holding pattern. I'll let you guys know, though.

We all know who REALLY got the idea going... (look above)
But anyway, it takes a LOT of work to get a program going. It took awhile to get the A320 and B744 programs up and running and right now SS is looking into fixing things elsewhere. a new program isn't at the top of the list. it'll happen eventually tho
