Jerrell,
The fleet 727 is based upon the aircraft of that era and does not have a GPS incorporated into the panel. Navigating this bird is strongly recommended using both NAV 1 & 2 radios. Try giving it a shot. If you need help using the autopilot just ask.
If you must have the GPS here is a link that will help you make the GPS available.

The 727 also has an INS, which works well. There's no manual included unfortunately, but if you download the AFV 707 installer, or the DVA 720 installer, the panel manuals for those will have instructions on how to program the INS.
Cheers!

Jerrell, welcome to the "Baby Boeing". Flying this aircraft is a step back in time indeed. If you are used to a glass cockpit, then the 72 will be an experience indeed.
Gideon and David (CP and ACP/727) will be a great help in learning the ins and outs of flying this bird. Although Gideon gave you a link for the GPS, I recommend against it since the "real" 727 didn't have it. Learning to navigate well via VORs, NDBs and non-RNAV SIDs and STARs will go a long ways towards making you a better pilot.

I would like to say thanks to Luke, Tracy, and Gideon, for responding to my plea so quickly. Also,, to all the hard work that went into this good aircraft.
I am a retired airline pilot, from the state od Alaska, so I sure remember the Golden Nugget paint on the Alaska Airplanes.
But, somehow I never was able to fly the 27.[the company that I worked for had C130's and 737's] I am busy gathering Hi charts so I can fly the vor airways. I am so used to the 747, and the PMDG, and when I downloaded the 27, it did not have a GPS, I was lost.
I have figured the radio's, and the auto-pilot out now, so hopefully I can pass the check ride.
The information you folks sent really helped this old guy out.
Cheers,
Jerry

Jerry, no problem at all. We hope to eventually take over DVA and have EVERYONE flying the 727 LOL!
The "autopilot" if you wanna call it that, is very basic and only has V/S and level hold. You'll give the altitude alerter quite a workout since there is no "set and forget" altitude hold function.
The "autothrottle" (again, if you wanna call it that!) will happily exceed your EPRs and burn the engines up if you are too far off the selected airspeed.
As far as the radios, nothing special there but there is no Active/Standby... You dial it when you need it
Good luck on your checkride and please feel free to ask anything about the 727
(and as far as being old, I feel your pain! )

Jerry,
If you like the DVA 727 I strongly urge you too look at the DreamFleet 727.
If you want to go way out on a limb try the "Iron Knuckles" DC-9.
I love sending a flight plan with the word "Vectors" infront of a list of 6 or 7 VOR's , and in the Remarks box something like
"Thanks Guys/NO RNAV/ HAVE CHARTS"

If you are flying a 727 or DC9 old style in the real world you generally will have a controller directing you to the ILS or non-precision approach. On Vatsim it helps to use the GPS because you essentially have no visualization of where the approach lane starts other than the last fix. That is the big difference. I fly the Iron Knuckles DC-9 alot and use the GPS with it. Since 95 percent of my flights are on Vatsim I frequently encounter no final controller directing me to the airport. This generally does not happen real world especially with the airports on our schedule.
I also need to state that I am real world IFR rated in light aircraft and have never used a GPS in a 172. My rating is so old the GPS was still on the drawing table. I like to keep it up on the screen in Vatsim however.

Thanks Scott, and Don,
Your ideas are all good.
I never was a fan of the DC9. I guess living in the NW, knowing so many Boeing folks, and pilots. [I won't ride in an Airbus, that's another story]
I really am looking forward to VOR's, ADF'S, who knows maybe even a procedure turn. Yes, those were the good ole days, never again will the pilots of today, ever experience those days. [the only problem I have with this 727 is the overhead panel is very hard to read.
Someone else suggested the Dream Fleet 727. [I'll take a look]
Changing the subject. Did you know that Level D has a special ? Buy their 767 for FS9, $40, get a $40 coupon to buy the 767 for FSX. [Or, if you have the FS9 version, and can prove it, ask for the $40 coupon, and buy the FSX version for $15. [The FSX is $60 ]
Cheers,
Jerry

By the way, on the Dreamfleet 727 (Currently available for FS9 Only) you can access the GPS from the panel, and also have the option of steam or glass gauges.

Gideon, say it isn't SO!
I would miss getting to the flight line two hours early in a driving snow to shovel enough coal to warm the boilers and get my steam gauges going!
