Hello,
I am NOT a computer expert so if anyone can help, Please do.
I received a virus that literally went through EVERY file on my whole computer. Does anyone know what I can do? Should I reformat my computer or do I need to delete everything on my Hard Drive? If I need to reinstall everything, that is fine.
Thanks for the help,
Graham RitzCaptain, B747-400

Graham, if you have an antivirus program, run that and see if it clears up for you. You can also try using system restore. I just had a virus on my machine and system restore took care of it for me. Just a wild guess here, but I'm guessing its the Antivirus System Pro bug. Thats what I had. It's a pain.

I got the one that Kevin got. I got fed up and reinstalled windows, but thats going to the extreme. In my defense though, nothing was working for me.

Graham, try booting your computer in safe mode, then go into system restore. Or you could also try doing it through the boot menu. Thats what I had to do. And Andrew, that virus is nasty, isn't it?!

For the AntiVirus 2009/2010 nasty, I've found that MalWareBytes does a pretty good job of eradicating it. I've used it a couple of dozen times to clean that nasty bug from both desktops and laptops that were literally crippled by it. One was so bad that it would sometimes take 3-4 minutes to see the effect of clicking on something as basic as the [Start] button. The most effective way is to remove the drive from the infected machine and connect it to a clean system that has the Malwarebytes program already installed and updated. I have an external USB dock (Thermaltake BlacX) that I use. Start off a scan of only the bad drive. Trying to install and run Malwarebytes on an infected system can add hours to the process.
