Hi everyone,
Over the last few weeks I've noticed Air France Virtual has hit the ground running and his continuing to grow. I was wondering if DVA had any plans to incorporate any other SkyTeam partners such as Northwest, Continental, El Al, etc. as full blown branches of DVA?
Thanks!

i was wonderin the same thing, kyle. I know that there is a continental and northwest alliance out there somewhere. i think it would be a good idea to link up w/ them, like AVA and british airways.

AAL and British Airways in real life form part of the "oneworld alliance" not SkyTeam, as Delta, Continental, AirFrance/KLM/NorthWest, Czech Airlines and Korean Air do... so, I don't see if you we are simulating reality, why should we link with AVA or BAV
Cheers!

That's a good question. BTW, El Al is not part of SkyTeam, they're just a Delta codeshare partner.

That would be really cool, unless we are planning in creating ourselves the whole of the SkyTeam airlines...

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you. You may be interested to know that the Air France connection was one of the reasons I selected Delta as the virtual airline I would join back in May of 2001. My goal has been to have an Air France for a number of years now, and I would not close the door entirely on any other airline.
However, with that said I'd like to reiterate my philiosophy on the subject. I don't want to overexpand and add airlines for the sake of coverage, nor do I want to be a "virtual SkyTeam". The two "other" Delta Virtual Airlines are parts of the SimAirline.net and Flying Tigers groups, and these two groups have a significantly different attitude towards different airlines than us.
You will note that both groups have in excess of a dozen different virtual airlines, and I believe a lot of the flavour and character of the airlines they replicate has been lost, especially since both seem to be expanding agressively lately. I want to ensure that we faithfully duplicate the character of the airlines we model, and do so in a first-rate fashion. That's why we've created our historical equipment programs, and have extensive documentation on our aircraft. It's more than just flying routes (you can do that already via our codeshares) but it's really bringing an airline to life for its afficionados.
My other concern is that I have no intentions of stepping on anyone's toes. There are competent and friendly virtual airlines based upon Continental and Northwest out on the Internet. We participate with one of them (VCA) on a semi-regular basis, and we share pilots with both. I don't want to waste my time and energy replicating an existing VATSIM-based virtual airline when I can focus on new directions.
AFV is a bit of an experiment. Can two virtual airlines coexist within the same framework here? If it succeeds, my gut is telling me that maybe Aeroflot might be the next, most interesting and most complementary airline. Experience should tell you that any further expansion is years (not months) away.
Cheers!

Very well put Luke. I believe that a VA that has a well thought out process is aligning itself up for many years of success. I mean, let's face it. There are plenty of VA's available on the internet and there are many to cater to almost everyone's individual desires and virtual needs.
Ask yourselves this question. "Why did I join Delta Virtual and why am I still here?" Get my point? The answer can be found right there.
VA's that become too big for their bridges at some point lose their attractiveness and their VA pilots begin searching elsewhere. It is pretty moot if you're filling up a bucket on top, but you have a hole on the bottom that is leaking. Having participated with several VA's (American Flight Airways; Delta Virtual and American Virtual...and yes in that order), I have found myself truly dedicated to DVA. There is alot more to offer here than there is with alot of other VA's, and that holds as a testimonial to the hard work and well thought out processes that DVA has implemented through it's years of existence.
I agree with the vision and direction that Terry, Luke and the management team have established for this Virtual Airline.
You don't alway's have to be the biggest, to be the best!
Regards,
Ken

the reason I'm staying at THIS Delta VA is for all the reasons Luke talked about.
Something is lost when you can fly almost any airline. It's just too much. For me, anyway, it takes away the "feel" that I enjoy of being a Virtual Pilot for a virtual airline.
