Just wondering on how Nvidia PhysX would affect performance in FS9 and FSX?
Do you guys have it switched on or off?
I'm receiving my GTS 250 1GB in 2 days...

That depends on your Computers specs, and other, but it would probably work for FSX

Since the FS series are mainly physics based simulators, it will help a lot. Unlike regular games which have physics in them, they're mainly based on a specific game engine. ATI cards are designed to take full advantage of the graphical abilities of the game engine, while Nvidia has more "PhysX" in them to help render the physics based graphics. It's a crude explanation, but my best understanding. Also, keep in mind that PhysX drivers are required to take advantage of this.

It won't help. Does FS9 or FSX appear on the supported list?

Luke, that supported list is rather old. I know for a fact from talking to a family friend who is a Nvidia developer that PhysX will infact aid in flight sim.

No links, Luke. But I do have an anecdote. I cam currently simming on an old 6150SE onboard, and just to see how much the new GPU + PhysX would help, I just put the new GPU from my new system into the old system with the PhysX drivers. I locked it at 50FPS and it stayed right there and the wave animation was out of this world. Just using the regular non PhysX drivers, with 50FPS lock I was only able to pull around 40 and the wave animation was much choppier.

Awesome to hear about performance increase and wave animation. By the way where could I get the PhysX drivers from? The NVIDIA website itself? Or will it already come pre-installed into the GTS 250?
This is the first time I buy these kinds of cards from NVIDIA, before I used to run on a 256MB FX5500 PCI card where I then built my rig and expanded into an HD 4870 but that didn't seem to help out much as the card itself wasn't very good with FS.
I have read that enabling "PhysX" could cause lag in games, is this right?
Thanks in advance.

Nvidia PhysX (ex Ageia) it's not supported / coded / programmed into FS9 and FSX
Daniel Haro wrote:

You can leave the option "on" and it would be used only if the game supports it, if not then it won't be used.

From what I have read about it the game must have been made to support/use this phsx card.

I'm pretty sure the only game that supports PhysX Accel. is Mirrors Edge. Besides, if you look at a video with side by side comparison, it's really hard to tell the difference...

As said before, games need to support PhysX to take advantage of it -- but FSX doesn't.
It wouldn't make any sense either, because if you move all physics calculations to the graphics card, you would rule out the majority of people who don't have a compatible card (like older nVidia or ATI).
In games like mirror's edge, PhysX is used to add some "bonus" detail in some areas, and that's about it. I don't know how that should look like in a simulation like FSX... windshear simulation only with PhysX?! That would be ridicolous...

I do have a PhysX enabled card, GTX275, as most of the latest Nvidia cards they come with PhysX, there's zero difference turning PhysX ON of OFF regarding FSX.

Thanks Charly.
On another note, what would be some good NHancer settings for a GTS 250?
Card arrives today and I can't wait to put that puppy in my case.
I'll miss the delivery. School FTL!
I'll post some screens and FPS shots later today if possible.
