Guys I need some help, please.
My sound card died back in July, and I've been using onboard sound ever since.
When I tried to fly on VATSIM, I came across my mic not being detected by the system. I thought the mic was broken, and tried a different one, same outcome.
Then I thought my mobo (ASUS P5GV) didn't support microphones, but I checked the manual and it does.
Does anyone know if there's any setting (BIOS, drivers, anything) that enables or disables the microphone input only? Because the sound output works great.
Windows XP SP2
Thanks!

I only know FSINN....check your "stoplight" in your task bar (lower right) and determine where your microphone is pointing to...it might either say "nothing" or it may still list your sound card. I assume SB is similar.
You might also want to double click on your "sound" icon in that task bar...it's possible that windows kicked your mic to mute.

The lights are actually the FSFDT Control Panel, you want to go into the VOICE section and check that your card/settings are portraying what you actually have. If your system is not recognizing the headset you will know - because they will not be listed there as an option to select. If they are listed there - then it's prob time to get a USB headset - or a new sound card!

Yeah, the mic isn't even listed in Windows's Audio Devices (Control Panel)... that's why I was wondering if there's somethign wrong my configuration, or the mobo is already damaged (it's almost 4 years old).
I've attached a photo of my Sound configuration on Windows.

If you have a friend who has a USB headset/microphone, borrow it and see if you get sound in....then it's a bad mic. They tend to go bad.
Just in case, check out your FSINN or Squawkbox sound settings--they could be overriding Windows.

David, if you uncheck the seleccionar box on the volume control panel on your pic above do you get any sound picking up from the mic?

Gideon, it can't be unchecked.
It's interesting, though, that if I check the box where it says "Línea de entrada" to the left side (Input line, in English), the PC records any sounds playing (for example, music coming from Media Player).
Jack, I'll see if I can find someone who has a USB headset, thanks for the suggestion!

Plantronics are very good - I have the Logitech 981-000068 ClearChat PC Wireless Internet Headset - got it on sale for $55 a while ago - and I love it. I also have a plantronics (actually 2) and they are very good as well. I bring the plantronics with me when I'm traveling

You might want to go into Device manager, sound device and disable the driver for your old sound card. If that driver is still enbled your system will be porting the microphone to a non existant card thus going nowhere. I went throught the opposite process (installed a card and took me about a week to figure it out). Good luck.

This may sound dumb but… check to make sure it’s plugged into the correct input on your mobo. Should be a pink input. Does the mic work in any other program? Test it in windows voice recorder to see if it picks it up. If it works then it’s the software. Since your sound seems to be working then it probably isn’t a BIOS thing but you can check to make sure that your “onboard audio” is on. Update/reinstall your audio drivers from the mobo manufacture, etc…
I did notice that your playback and voice are two different devices SoundMAX HD Audo O and I. Can you change those?
But going back to basics make sure it’s plugged into the correct input and test it in another program.

I just bought my USB Headset yesterday.
Truly awesome indeed!
Disfruta!
