My 2- week old GTX285 is defective, so am in the process of returning it to Compusa. What would be the best graphics card- my price range is 400-500.
Thanks,
Jeff

Oh you just wasted your money :(! GTX295 is basically two cards in SLI that they sell to you, which as you know is no help to FSX. You should definitely cancel the order and go for the 2GB version of the GTX285. What's wrong with your current one?

Nick- I had the GTX285 2GB, and it gave me nothing but trouble. I have done research, and many GTX285's have the same problem- driver and OC errors, so Im just going to go with the 295...its not that much more.

I hope you at least went with the 1792MB version. And if you decide to play other games, the GTX295 is great because of it's "SLI-esque" configuration.

Could you possible explain how to install it? I hear it has a 6 and 8-pin connector, but my GTX285 has to 6-pin. How do I install it? By the way, with BB shipping, it should come by tomorrow!

I believe they are options to connect to your PSU. If you have a wire with an 8-pin male end, you can use the 8-pin female end on the card. I THINK...

Hey Jeff. Sorry I haven't been able to get back to you on skype recently. If the clock setting, and/or fan setting in the program I sent you didn't work, it probably was the card. As Nick said, the GTX295 is really just 2 GTX275 GPU's on 1 video card. And since FS can only utilize 1 GPU, it will be like running a single GTX275. It's still a good card though, and you probably won't loose too much performance with the GTX295. As for the PSU connections, where I had you plug those 6 pin PCI-e cables in, theres 2 more pins hanging off the side of each cable. So in 1 of the spots, you will just plug the 6-pin connector into the card, and in the other spot you will plug both the 6-pin and 2-pin connector into the card.

FS is more about VRAM, not speed of the GPU.

John- I prefer Nvidia over Ati in graphics card. However, I like AMD processors better than Intel...
