I found the problem with the Saitek radio panels not working properly with the downloaded DC-8-61 (or any other aircraft for that matter.) In the main aircraft folder (DVA_DC8_61) modify the aircraft.cfg file so that the following settings are used: (scroll down to the //Radio Type section)
// Radio Type = available, standby frequency, has glide slope
Audio.1 = 1
Com.1 = 1, 1
Com.2 = 1, 1
Nav.1 = 1, 1, 1
Nav.2 = 1, 1, 0
Adf.1 = 1
Transponder.1 = 1
Marker.1 = 1
Save the aircraft.cfg file and that's it!!
I just got the Saitek Radio panels, Flight Yoke with two throttle quadrants, and the rudder pedals w/toe brakes. What a difference!!!

Jon,
Glad you got it working! I'm not sure why you had problems using it with "any" aircraft as I routinely use the Saitek panels and TQs with the DC-8-61 and have never had any problems. Remember that you need to start the little Saitek utility after starting Flight Sim in order for FS to recognize the inputs. Regardless, yours is an interesting fix, I'll have to look into that to see if I can gain any additional functionality.
With regards to the overly-sensitive tuning knob, it only happens sometimes and can be a little frustrating if your in a fast-paced ATC environment. If it happens to me, and the freq knob is setting on a questionable detent or is otherwise hard to tune, I'll keep turning the knob "through" the frequency and continue turning (in the same direction) until I come back to it. This usually gets it off the detent. I'm working on a fix for it.
You may notice the mode selector knobs may be very hard to turn. If so, I posted a fix here:

Good to see a fellow DC-8 driver using the Saitek products! With time we should consume the world's entire oil supply!
