I just spent a few hours with another member just to help him get FSX to run on windows 7. I hope that this thread will serve to help all of the members that have gone to windows seven. Advice such as "turn on admin" and how to run FSX in a different mode would help a lot of us out there. If you had a problem and found a fix please list it here so that others may utilize it to keep on flying.

Plenty of people do have the problem though, including me. Andrew pointed out my thread. I guess not everyone has the problem. A few lucky people I suppose

To be honest, in my experience the weakest link in the entire chain is FSX.
Cheers!

Gotta be specific. Are you running with upgrade to 7 or a scratch install. I have read some of the other blogs (thanks Andy) and they seem to center around upgrade or the beta versions. The PC I bought, the one I am using now came Installed with Win 7. No upgrades and no beta. There has got to be somthing different between a scratch install and upgrades. I just can't find what it is. It has to be some package that was running before an upgrade that changes things.

For users of Windows 7 32-bit and running FS9, run FS9 and any other add-on in Administrator mode. The same thing applies to scenery upgrades that install via an executable file. Run them all in Admin mode.

What's the point of Microsoft putting all the 'security gadgets' in the OS when the user is running everything 'as administrator' and gets into the habit of it. So every application the user and a whole community gets onto (trusted/untrusted) gets 'run as administrator' by default.
For application developers and maintainers, a potential security nightmare, I would say.
Not wanting a debate (Linux vs Windows kinds), just my .02.

O.K. It actually works. If you take all of the Sim stuff and give access to everybody with full control over the execuitable it will all work together. I got the idea from Jack and Andy. Run FSX, Acars, and Vatsim (by that I mean FSinn) in Windows Vista service pack 2 mode. The add Everyone in the security section and give everyone full control of the programs it will all work. Here is what I did. Click Start, Click Computer and double click the drive that contains FSX and all your other files. (My example is within the FSFDT file but must be done for all sim files) Double click on FSFDT, Double click on FWInn, right click on Activate32.bat. (you must do this for all execuitables and batch files that have to do with the Sim) Chose properties, select security, click edit, click add, click advanced, click find now, scroll down the list and double click everyone, click OK, Click the top box (Allow Full Controll) Click Apply, Click OK, Click Compatibility, click run this program in compatibility mode and choose Windows Vista service pack 2, clicl apply, click change settings for all users, again click run this program in compatibitlity mode and again select Windows Vista service pak 2, click apply then click OK. This must be done for FSX, Acars, Vatsim (FSINN or SQUAWK it should work the same way) and FSUIPC Files. As you go throug each one be sure to check the box for run as administrator or you'll be sorry later on. Also make sure everything stays the way you put it. Going back over mine I must have missed a few applies It takes some time but once up everything works great!!! Keep in mind that this worked on my system. I am running an HP with a I-7 processor, 6 gig ram, ATI 6050 with 1 gig ram. I am only running FSX, FSINN, and ACARS
