I was wondering if it is possible. I have a laptop (which has wireless) which runs on XP and a desktop which runs vista. I want to know if it is possible to get internet by hooking the computers up somehow? If someone could give me some help I would greatly appreciate that. Thanks.

You could do this if you had a wireless card on your desktop and could use it as an access point. You would have your desktop hardwired and it would then move the internet through it and out the wireless card. So if you have a wireless card around, you can do that, or if your desktop had two wired connections, you can do that as well, if the computers are relatively close to each other.

Do you mean something such as a lynksis wireless card, or one that you would have to install (by taking apart the computer). If you mean something such as a portable lynksis one, I can't find the area to plug it into the desktop.

For a wireless card on your desktop, it would have to be a PCI one (which plugs into the motherboard) or would have to be a USB one. The one that goes into your laptop, PCMCIA i assume, would not work on your desktop as it doesn't not have the type of port on it. So you would have to purchase some hardware to do it. Or can you run a cable from your desktop to your wireless router in the house?

I wish I could but the router is located on the other side of the house. I'm thinking of looking into getting a wireless usb.

Well if you buy a wireless one, then you can just connect to your internet that way. Didn't think about that..duh..haha

That is what I would get, get something with a cord you plug into it, so you can move it around if you have to so you can get the best signal
