When starting FSX, the splash screens gets displayed and that is it. I have waited as much as 10 minutes but the splash screens stays displayed and FSX does not run. The Task Manager does not list FSX in the 'Applications' tab but it show's it in the 'Processes' tab, but I never see any CPU usage.
I have Windows XP, Nvidia card (Connected to 2 monitors), Pentium(R) 4 CPU, 3 GHz and 2GB of RAM.
I have uninstalled FSX and re-installed but it still won't start. I also have FS9 and have no problems with it. I use FS9 all the time. I don't use FSX it because FS9 performs much better (at least in my system). I only use FSX to check out some scenery or to verify that a program (that I wrote) works for both FSX and FS9.
I bought FSX when it first was released and have loaded SP1 and lately SP2. (I suspect SP2 did something because FSX has not worked since. The uninstalling of SP2 did not fix the problem. Maybe its in the registry, but I won't touch this area because I know enough about it to be extremly dangerous.
Before I wipe out my HD and reload all (which I am sure I'll miss something that I downloaded) does anyone have a hint of what is keeping FSX from starting?

Even if you got it to work you'd be in major pain trying to run it on that hardware
Its clearly choking on something in the install and rather than getting a NULL pointer
and bombing its hanging forever (which I think is worse ).
If I were in your shoes I would install a fresh copy in a different location, do NOTHING
to it until you make sure that works, then step by step install and verify. I've never
run into a problem with the service packs, but have read about planes that broke, so
maybe you have an add-on that chokes on SP2??
You are seriously in need of a hardware upgrade if you ever want to enjoy FSX dude!
