Hello all, I was wondering if DVA is looking to set up scheduling flights for sports teams. If you check on flightaware.com, you will see that Northwest Airlines is used for a lot of NBA teams to travel to and from games. The NFL uses Delta 737's, 757's & 767's to travel. Is there a schedule on DVA for this? Can we log hours if we'd like to do this? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Happy flying!

No, this has been discussed many times. If you want to fly one of those flights then create a help desk issue for senior staff to review.

You know, I was thinking about asking to do a charter to Kuwait City.
My first trip to Iraq (this war) We were s'posed to be on an OIA bird, but actually wound up on a Delta.
Wanted to recreate that flight.
Silly?

Its not silly at all. From my log book during the NFL season it becomes apparant I tried to follow Tampas home and away game schedule, i just settled with layovers in ATL usually. Same with my vacations i take, I always re fly the route.

What callsigns do Delta charters use? How can one identify a charter flight?

They use dal, but their numbers are usually -8000 or -9000. One is right, I can't remember which.

I know the Atlanta Braves are always DAL8883, I believe the Yankees are DAL8889. The Atlanta Hawks are DAL8932. Each team has its own flight number for the entire season so if you can figure out your teams schedule you can follow them on flightaware. It is amazing to see just how many charter flights Delta flies each day..... I would say they fly probably 75% of all major sports teams in the United States.

The 9000 flights are usually either non revenue flights or flights that have been cancelled and rescheduled. For example say DAL10 is a flight from ATL to DTW and it continues on to Japan from Detroit. If the first leg gets delayed and the second leg is in the air, you could not have two flights with the same callsign so they give it a 9000 flight number. Or they are bringing a flight back from Boeing field to Seattle after repairs or new paint has been done on the aircraft, it will be given a 9000 number.
