My computer has been aging for sometime and I have been able to squeak a little more life into it with some overclocking. I decided to do a possible build out last night and found its really wouldn't be too expensive since I already have the hard drives, case, power supply and some other stuff I need. I was just curious what another computer person thought of this build out and if you had an recommendations on changing what I have come up with. Any suggestions would be great.
Processor - Intel Core i7-930 2.8GHz LGA 1366 Quad-Core Desktop Processor Model BX80601930
Motherboard - ASUS P6X58D Premium LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX
RAM - CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit
Video Card - EVGA 01G-P3-1180-AR GeForce GTX 285 1GB 512-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16
CPU Cooler - Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme Universal CPU Cooler
I usually buy Gigabyte motherboard but this one seemed to have some good reviews and I have had some friends that really liked ASUS. All the other stuff I chose because I have used them before and had pretty good experiences with. Also went off some reasearch and some newegg feedback as well.

Have you looked at the I7 920? The 920 and 930's transfer rates are the same, and they both overclock relatively close to each other -- so the difference isn't 100% worth it for the 930.
Other than that doesn't look too bad -- CPU cooler though, check out NOCTUA if you don't want a water-cooled based system

My reasoning for the 930 is that its within 15 or 20 dollars of the 920 and is newer. Really either would work for what I am looking for since they are pretty similiar in specs as you mentioned. MicroCenter is also selling them for 70 bucks cheaper than NewEgg, so I might try to snag that deal.
That NOCTUA looks pretty cool, it looks like a wind tunnel from the side picture..lol. A little steep on price, but I am sure you get what you pay for.
Thanks

Well I just got my new computer, so no money to spend on the new shiny stuff -- so I have refrained from actually looking.

I guess I can't blame you there. I just made the plunge except for the graphics card. Gonna wait until I can at least see the new stuff. Hopefully newegg will get it out today.
Thanks for your help

Tom I can vouch for the Noctua. It is a beast and it works just as well as it is big. With my 920 @ 4.0 I am seeing temps of 62c at full load with the Intel Stress Test (IBT), that is just amazing. To top it off my rig is enclosed in a computer Armour so there is not a lot of external airflow. You also have a very good Mobo there. It easily overclocks. Here is a great forum thread devoted to that board. http://www.overclock.net/intel-motherboards/662236-asus-p6x58d-premium-thread.html My rig is the last one pictured in the third post.

Thanks for the info Jeremy. Yea I ordered that cooler, I am a little afraid of that it won't fit in my antec 300. The cooler I have now is big, but not that big and it was a tight fit. I am sure I can figure some way to get it in though. I am excited to try out the asus board. I have had some issues in the past with gigabyte, mostly been good though, but change isn't bad.
Good looking rig, my case looks about the same size, so probably will fit. Thanks for that link too, looks like a wealth of info!

The new six core CPU just came out today. Wait a few days for more versions of it to come out besides the extreme, and you'll thank yourself.

i doubt there will be more coming out in a few days, i'd give it a few weeks at least and even if they do come out they are still going to be expensive since it is intel and since 32nm is a new manufacturing technology.

I bought everything I listed except for a graphics card. With the new Nvidia chip just a week or so away, I am going to purchase that. Everything else is running like a charm though, and this processor is a beast. Did some video encoding last night and was just churning through it like it was nothing. Now for the overclock!
