Hi guys, im having a problem running fsx on my new desktop. Specs are vista 32 bit on an Intel i7-860 OC@3.2ghz, Ati radeon 4350, 4gb ram@1600mhz. I built this one specifically for fsx and tweaked according to the common thread on simforums, i still run out of system memory after a few minutes of flying. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you apply the 3GB Switch ?
Here's how:
1) Right-click 'Command Prompt -- Start > Accessories > Command Prompt
2) Choose 'Run as Administrator'
3) Type "bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072" and press [Enter]
4) Restart the computer
To REMOVE the 3GB switch in 32-bit VISTA, do the following:
1) Right-click 'Command Prompt -- Start > Accessories > Command Prompt
2) Choose 'Run as Administrator'
3) Type "bcdedit /deletevalue IncreaseUserVa" and press [Enter]
4) Restart the computer
You can get more information about the 3GB switch here:

Crosby, what exactly are you running besides FSX? Payware A/C, GEX,REX, ASA, and the such? Double check and make sure the switch took. you should see and it's been awhile , since i have been on a 32Bit OS , some where's around 3.25GB of ram in the systems menu in Vista.

Have you installed the service packs in FSX as well SP1 and SP2 ? , Also have you installed the SP2 for Vista as well? Yes I know you stated you followed Nick_N's advice, you can drop the UserVa down to 2560, and try that as well. it sounds like FSX is not able to load to the VAS and is crashing.

are you sure you're trying to install SP1 for FSX and not SP1 for FSX SDK?
What message are you getting that won't allow you to install?

This won't help you FSX problems but it is HIGHLY recommended that you install Vista SP1 and SP2.

Crosby,
If you do not have a a lot of time invested in this set up , Re format it all, follow this thread exactly http://205.252.250.26/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1208959973 then after you have all that done follow this one http://205.252.250.26/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1208959973 Don't take short cuts , and don't listen to those wanna be tweaks for FSX. AND DEFINITELY make sure you load SP1 and 2 for Vista, it elieviates what you are describing.

Don't sweat it Crosby, I am doing that right now, starting all over, after two years of tinkering with my PC, I fouled my FSX and decided to wipe the whole thing, This time I am taking our CEO's advice, and copying the whole system when completed to a back up drive a 2TB drive at that. Almost finished with FS9 then I will start FSX, then defrag the whole machine and back it up one more time. About a months worth of work for me
