Make sure screen savers are turned off. Is this a recent problem or did it just start?

yea i would agree with michael, make sure your screen savers are actually off and i had this probelem too, all you need to do is make sure the laptop is plugged in and turn off energy saver or whatever the thing is called, like you know, where the computer goes to sleep like 10mins if no activity, stuff like that, but it could be also screensavers too, if you set the computer to go to sleep or turn off after so many mins. and/or u have a screen saver, then once the screen saver start or it goes to sleep its kinda hard to wake it up or return it to a normal state after that expecially when you have the FS running

That's really not that much memory, if you are running a complex plane and any other addons, like weather,
you might run yourself out of memory, on my old computer I upgraded to 8G to keep just that problem
from happening.. my current i7 has 12G.
If it happens while you're gone for an hour try staying there and watching it

I am running FSX with my sliders cranked, tons of WOAI traffic, real world weather and traffic at 100% and have no problem at all with my little duo core Q6600, 2.40ghz, 8800GTX, and 4 GB of RAM with only 2.75 usable in windows 7 ultimate 32 bit.. Maybe it's a heating problem?

Any hoot Peter, the pc just shut off, or is it running and no screen? OOps answered that on myself if you have to force a hard reset, then you gots yourself an under powered system.

Is the graphics card you are using an upgrade or did it come in the dell computer. The reason I ask is because looking at that card on newegg it states "System Requirements Minimum 450 Watt Power Supply Requirement". I know you have a 500 watt, but with everything else, you might be pushing your power-supply to the limits, unless everything came in the computer installed by the factory.
