Hey Guys,
I am thinking of getting a mac for my next laptop/desktop to run FSX.FS9...
Any suggestions? Andy?

I got a MacbookPro running Windows via Bootcamp.
It's ok. Even Battlefield2 runs quite fine on it. However, I definitely wouldn't recommend FSX. FS9 should run quite fine though, especially with the new MBpros.
But when getting a Mac, you definitely should think about getting X-Plane, as X-Plane is much more performant... especially on Unix environment.

Are you buying the computer to be stylish or to run FSX?
If you want a system that will kick butt and make FSX sing, then
you want to buy an i7 980, with an 470 or 480GTX, and enough
memory and power of course. I don't have the Fermi (nVidia 4XX)
yet, but do have an i7 975 with 12G memory and a 275GTX and
its SUCH a pleasure to fly. Oh, and I use a 27" Samsung monitor,
its just gorgeous!!
Now, for work I also have a Mac Pro, I use VMWare Fusion on it, which
is a virtualization product, it lets me run multiple virtual machines, and
one is a Win 7 system, I could run FSX in that, but my experience with
VMs is they never are quite as good a bare metal, so why handicap yourself.
If you have some real use for the Mac they are nice, but it wont give you the
same joy that FSX does on system I described first. And a laptop is never that
immersive anyway IMHO.

I run FS9 and FSX just on my MBP. FSX, like I've mentioned hundreds of times, is a great program - you need the SPs, and you need to tweak it for your individual system.
My MAC runs FSX at a steady 25-30 FPS unless in ridiculously heavy online traffic - or if I am with a lot of online folks...then I drop to about 15 which is fine as well.
I'm in the FS world because I like to fly - the visuals, although add much to the experience - is not my deciding factor

How does FSX fair? I see you posted some pretty nice frames, but do you get a lot of stuttering?
Also, do you have FS9 installed?
Was the PHL Tri-Holer shot taken on your macbook? Any issues with it?
Lastly, would you do it again?

FSX runs fine - no stutters - but like any computer - you have to spend some TIME tweaking it.
The PHL shots are actually on my work laptop while I travel (Dell Latitude E6400) and FS9 with REP and AS
And again - reference the quote!

It gets hot, but I bought a cooling pad. I also got a fan control program that will bump up the speeds on the two fans that significantly decreases the heat play. And if I'm doing any flights longer than an hour, I'll usually minimize the FS running - which eliminates the rendering/processor task - which helps a lot.

I have to disagree...as far as the immersion - I have pretty much everything running on the Mac that I do on the main PC at home - and although not as fast as my big one - if I get real close to the screen - I'm immersed! lol

Would you recommend a PC laptop vs. a mac?
Would you mind posting some screenshots with your macbook?
I would love to see the image quality! I am thinking about getting a 15 inch macbook pro ...
