I don't know if I've asked this in another thread or not but, when I was using XP I was able to do the 3GB switch but now I'm using windows 7 and I was wondering if anyone knows if there's a way to activate it in 7..? I have 4 gigs of RAM on windows 7 32bit with an intel duo core 6600 and an 8800GTX with an nVIDIA mother board and my system is only showing 2.75 gigs of usable RAM.. I'd sure like to be able to utilize more of my RAM when running FSX.. Thanks

You're probably better off just using the 64-bit version.
Cheers!

+1 on what Luke stated, and that 3G switch is added in Win7 you can verify the amount of ram seen by the system in the system properties page. If not
To enable the 3GB switch on Windows Vistaâ„¢ or Windows 7:
1. Right-click Command Prompt in the Accessories program group of the Start menu. Click Run as Administrator.
2. At the command prompt, enter "bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072"
3. Restart the computer.
To disable the 3GB switch:
1. Right-click on Command Prompt in the Accessories program group of the Start menu. Click Run as Administrator.
2. At the command prompt, enter "bcdedit /deletevalue IncreaseUserVa"
3. Restart the computer.
For more information on the 3GB switch, refer to the following Microsoft MSDN article:

Thanks for you quick responses guys but I just barely got windows 7 32 bit about a month ago so the thought of getting another version and having to redo everything is out of the question right now. Anthony. I tried to do that when I found it on the internet in a search myself but my system still shows only 2.75 GB of usable RAM.. I don't have to "run as administrator" because I've granted full permissions on my computer. I've tried to right click on the "run" tab but it does'nt even give me an option to "run as administrator".. I expect this is because of the permissions? I don't know maybe I'm doing something wrong.. I see the little window pop up for a split second and then it dissapears imediately. Thanks for your help guys.

It's also worth noting that the 3GB switch merely changes the percentage of virtual memory available to applications versus the OS. It does not change the amount of memory visible to the OS. You need the 64-bit version of Win7 to do that.
It's not a matter of purchasing it again; I believe all versions of Win7 include a license for 32- and 64-bit versions. It does, however, mean a reinstall.
Cheers!

Hmmmmm.. So what you're saying is I could just download the 64 bit version with no out of pocket? Would it be like an "upgrade" or do I have to completely reinstall the 64 version with a petition and all that? Sorry I'm not that good at all of this stuff.

An upgrade from 32 to 64 bit probably requires a complete fresh install of windows, it has to actually replace files rather than activate features.

It will support whatever your motherboard can handle, I believe the cap is * Starter: 8GB * Basic: 8GB * Premium: 16GB * Professional: 192GB * Enterprise: 192GB * Ultimate: 192GB 4Gb is the max for a 32 bit OS,

Thanks Anthony.. I'm not sure how many slots I have for RAM.. I know I have 3 slots for GPU's.. I'll have to check that out. If I put more RAM in this thing with a 64 bit system it'd probably run pretty good.. I do have my sliders up pretty high now tho. I could turn things down a bit I guess but I like my scenery..
