Note that aside the unconventional approach, the pilot is almost always confronted with a cross wind, as you can see from the video. The problem with the airport, beside the obvious, is that the winds come rushing down the slope of the mountain off the left side of Rwy 5, thus creating a treacherous crosswind that is always gusting... The camera is posted on this slope.
A few years ago, this runway was almost half it's current size, as you may know, and THAT was a really big challenge in real life! I was privileged to be able to see first hand both approaches... from the observer seat in the cockpit of an old 737 and, more recently, of an A321, both of TAP. It's absolutely incredible... I can only begin to imagine what would be like doing a similar approach with buildings all around you like Kay Tak in Hongkong!
