I spent about an hour flying from RIC to JFK using a CRJ-200. I lined up with the runway about 200 feet in the air with an airspeed of about 50 knots. I hit the runway and then it said that I crashed and it showed my wheels inside the ground - litteraly inside the ground. The only way that would happen would be if I was going 100+ knots. So, I basically wasted an hour flying to JFK for nothing. Anyone know why this happened? Maybe it was my landing...

Some people say a landing is a controled crash. How about we take the crash part out the equations. There are realism settings in FSX where you can turn off collisions. This way your plane will just bounce back into the air.

Well, I'd like to use scott's idea and remove crashed altogether. Will it still do the splashes or will it remove those too? Lol, I could just drive across the waterway that is between Manhattan and the rest of NY and drive onto the runway like a hover craft =D

Well, I crashed the same plane on my approach to CVG in a similar timeframe, only I had crashes off that time. I had my speed set to 120 and I crashed the same way I did the first time. Anyone care to tell me why there's 4 hours of my life out the toilet because of crashed that were caused by false physics?

Don't start on the CRJ. Go through the microsoft lessons that teach you how to fly before you try and log a flight. You're just setting yourself up for failure and it may lead you to quit before even scratching the surface of this hobby.

Now think about it if a real CRJ landed at those rates do you think the plane will be fully intact on the runway. I also agree with Dean its not Fs just start small and work your way up theres nothing wrong with a little practice.

Also just looked at your two pirep.... your averaging 3.4 FPS!!! now wonder you cant land, your landings would improve if you could actually have a smooth flying sim. Id say practice might not do you any good if your getting frames like that. ive been doing this for a long while and if my FPS drop below 13-15 FPS even I have a hard time landing smoothly. Increase your FPS and my guess is youll have a little better results. Also FSX is a FPS hog, you might want to go back to FS( and get better FPS 3.5 FPS, no wonder your having issues......But Im also +1 on the recomendation that you go through the in game training. Those landings you have so far arent landings but crashes. Good luck

Jordan...may I ask how long you have been attempting to flightsim?...It seems to me that you are somewhat of a novice...my advice to you is to "hit the books"...hard...on aviation in general and more specifically...the FSX manual...technically FS is a game...but it really does require ALOT of study to "play" it...especially in regards to flying for a VA...Also, the manual will make suggestions on how to improve your FSX performance...
However...it just may be that your PC does not have the power to run FSX smoothly...what are your system's specs?

It's not the game causing you to crash... I believe it to be operator error. Keep you speed well above 120 and you shouldn't crash.

Practice..practice and more practice..trust me, im only 17 with NO real life flying experience, nothing, i started flightsimming since i was 12, at first i couldnt even line up to the runway, now i can land, i dont have beautiful landings but the keep improving. so just practice, and raise ur FPS

Jordan, Let me echo all the advise you have gotten so far. Knowledge and practice will make you a good pilot. Here is a technique I use anytime I fly a new aircraft that I am unfamiliar with. When on final, (5-10 miles out from your favorite airport) save the flight. You can then at anytime go to that saved flight and practice your landings. So instead of investing multiple hours to discover that you don't know how to land, you can practive the landings and approaches over and over until you get it down. You will not have ACARS to measure your vertical speed (decent rate) but most aircraft have a guage that will give you a semi accurate indication of your decent rate that you can use to determine how well you are doing.
I believe all the manuals talk about flying the aircraft onto the runway. Believe this. You cant fly these like you would a Cessna. Hope this helps. Don't give up, you will master this!!!!

When I first started, I didn't even know how to set many auto-pilot commands, and didn't even know what an ILS runway is. But with practice (lots of it), and actually watching like Air Crash Investigation(amazing how crashes can teach you many things) I began to improve. I'm 14 and I'm looking to get my pilots license soon. So practice makes permanent
