I have a Dell 19" flat panel monitor which I'm looking to replace. I'm looking at at 23 or 24" monitor. Does the video card decide how good the picture will look or take away from frame rates with that size? My current video card is an ATI 4550. I don't think I could go much higher due to the power supply which is only 350 watts. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I larger monitor like you are looking at will generally have a higher resolution compared to your 19". If the resolutions are similiar or the same, you will notice little to no difference in performance.
If the new monitor is for instance twice the resolution of your current monitor, you will notice a difference (lack of performance).

For instance, my main monitor is a Samsung 28", its native resolution
is 1920x1080. I don't know anything about ATI but if you look on the
web I'm sure you can find the resolutions your card is capable of.
Its not the monitor that hits your frame rate, its the amount of memory
in the video buffer on the card or in system memory.
I'll tell you one thing, the bigger the monitor you can manage the more
immersive the experience. I bought my Samsung at Costco, it was a little
over 300, amazing considering what the Apple 30 costs, and its just gorgeous
for flight simming, and it doubles as a great personal TV when I want to watch
a streaming movie via NetFlix Get one if you can!

OK my video card list's 1920x 1080 as the last resolution available. Now I'm running 32 bit OS but have 4gigs of memory plus 512mb on the video card. So I have the full 3 gigs that the 32 bit system will allow.

Meh, when I want to use NexFlix, I stream it through my PS3 onto my big screen tv.

Ok I'm looking at a 23" monitor at Newegg. The recommended resolution is 1920x1080, Is that the native resolution? Now on my 19" i'm using a resolution of 1024x768 for text size for my wife but for fs9 I use 1280x1024 which gives a great picture. In the main menu for the monitor it states that the 1280x1024 is the optimum resolution.

Well, I could do that either from my PS3 or my XBox or my Wii downstairs, but since the wife
is watching something else, and I want to be in my office, I dont.... 8-)

OK guys need your help again. I purchased my new monitor a Veiwsonic 23". I've got setup in the 1920x1080 resolution, went to fly and the instrument panel is huge and unrealistic. Is there a way to shrink it down to a more convincing size without lowering the resolution? The other veiws look fantastic if lookijng from outside the plane.

I've gone into the control panel, the ATI Catalyst Control Center and the FS9 settings and all are at 1920x1080. The VC Cockpit looks OK but the 2d cockpit is awfull, the dials look egg shaped and the edges are jagged. I have controls on the video card just about maxed out and getting good frames locked at 23 and holding steady. Settings in FS9 also maxed. Some of the A/C I fly don't have V/C cockpits The only way to get the 2d cockpit looking good is to lower the res. but then yoiu lose screen size, like going back to 19"
