I am thinking (as of now) that it's time to build a new computer (first time). The current computer I have right now is iffy for the things I want to do with it (which consists of FS(9 for online flying and X for missions and other small things). I currently have:
CPU- AMD Phenom 9500 Quad Core (2.20 ghz)
RAM- 6 GB DDR2-SDRam
Motherboard- Nothing fancy, I believe it is some sort if generic brand (does Pegatron NARRA3 ring a bell?)
Graphics Card- NVidia GForce GTX 260
PSU- Corsair 750w (if you need more info, please ask)
OS- Windows Vista 64 bit
Now, the only things that I will salvage out of the rig I have now will be the PSU and the Graphics card (I put those in a while back). At the point in time I'm at right now I'm limited to around $700 to create a new system. I was planning on figuring out what I want (and need) and over the next year and slowly purchasing parts as they go on sale (if they ever do) or when the money I need comes around. Things to keep in mind while reading the rest below is that, the system I want to have, will be able to handle FS9 at high FPS (30+) in a place such as New York City (JFK) on VATSIM and possibly run FSX well to with high frames on VATSIM (keep in mind I use REX, ASE, PMDG, Wilco, CS, and VATSIM). Right now, this is what I'm looking at for possible options for a new system to build:
CPU- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115215&cm_re=i5_processor-_-19-115-215-_-Product
Motherboard- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128425&cm_re=lga_1156_motherboard-_-13-128-425-_-Product
RAM- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277
OS- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116754&cm_re=windows_7-_-32-116-754-_-Product
Hardrive- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136218
CPU Cooler (if I decide to overclock, which I probably will)- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835154011&cm_re=1156_cooler-_-35-154-011-_-Product
Case- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147153&cm_re=computer_case_atx-_-11-147-153-_-Product
DVD Drive- Haven’t really looked around yet, any recommendations are welcome
So these are just ideas for possible parts for the new system. Now time for the questions. For one, would there be a benefit in getting an i7 to take advantage of the higher speeds or would the i5 be able to perform just as well running FSX, FS9, Photoshop, etc. at the speed out of the box or overclocked? I am willing to overclock and with the cooler I should be able to get it up there a ways in speed (3.4-3.6 ghz?). Also, would there be any benefit in getting a quad core over a dual core or should I maybe think about getting a dual core? I don’t know much about that yet but more research should do the trick.
Lastly, does anyone have any tips for what to do and not to do when building a computer? Anything would help.
Thanks for reading this and sorry for the rambling, I look forward to hearing what you all think.

1- I would find a CPU in your budget that has the highest stock speed.
2- Quad over Dual running on same speed, doesn't give better performance in FS as of FPS.( I have both and have done tests as well as others reporting same results)
So a 3.2 ghz dual will perform much better than a 2.66 quad. Also, dual generate less heat than a quad giving you a better base for a good overclock.
How about this one, whis is just $15 more than your suggestion:

If you want a quiet cpu cooler with max cooling, Noctua is hard to beat:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100008000%2050012454&IsNodeId=1&name=Noctua
With that setup you'll easily reach 4.0 ghz.
If you go for i7, you will have to spend more. This should be your option then:

As for a case, well.. I have always regretted descisions to buy budget type cases. If you really want proven quality for clocking and budget,
I'd go for Antec 300. Simple but delivers in all tests I have seen where it matters for a builder that wants to overclock. Low temperatures!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042 or if you want the fancy one:

DVD, just any SATA will do.
As for general tips. Handle parts with care. Use wrist strap or always touch the case metal when fiddling inside. Don't use wool socks on a carpet and start building. shoes and wooden floors are preferred.
Static electricity is your "biggest enemy."
Also, don't be too generous with the cololer paste on cpu. A finger nail is quite adequate.
Sometimes depending on size on case and parts, attaching cpu and cooler before inserting the mb can be an option. (I actually had to cut the corners on my Noctua 140mm on the cpu cooler fans to fit it! and wouldn't have been able to mount it inside.)
Plan ahead BEFORE you start building. Try to work out a plan for your cables and wires. You want to have as little as possible criss crossing all over. My case seen from above:
Some cases(the pricy ones, often have solutions to wire everything through holes on case floor. Someone drill holes themselves to make it work, like these Antec 900 mods: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=126395
Last but not least, be prepared! :
Other than that, think first, do later and not the opposite.
