So building a new rig as some of you know but I was wondering which one would give me more bang for my buck in terms of performance?
I have set a P55 mobo on the list right now. But after seeing this video with the X58 Chipset it has me thinking:

Truly impressive.

I'm running the ASUS P7P55D-E PRO that has the Intel P55 Express Northbridge, Corsair XMS3 1600MHz 4 GB, Western Digital 64GB SSD that my Windows 7 64 bit install is on, and a Western Digital 320 GB HD that FSX is on. I have to say, for an overclocker like myself, its a really nice board, I'm impressed with the new Intels for a change. If I had to do it over again, Id got with another of the same graphics card in here for more monitor support, but overall, like I said I'm loving it!

Wow with that system you should be getting 60FPS in FSX.
Do you lock your frames?

Wow i see. What heavy addons are you using? Im able to get 60fps on a dual core but it micro stutters because both CPU's are to their limit.

Also is your sliders set to 100 percent on everything? with everything on the Max available settings? Autogen as well? I would find it hard to believe that a dual core can run 60 fps with sliders on Max for everything. Also i noticed that you are running fs9. I am tlaking about FSX, i havent flown the relic fs9 in a long time. im sure I would get killer frames if I ran FS9

Michael do you have ALL of the sliders all the way to the right? I have a similar setup (albeit I have a 3470x1680 resolution, thus the lower fps)

I use FS9 for my flights here but due to the lack of addons for me in FSX I dont use it.
When I do use it I run with Medium to High settings at 1366x768x32 res. What's your resolution? With those settings I get the 60FPS.

On a side note I spend alot of time tweaking/testing my system heavily for the most performance.

I have two monitors running VC mostly..... only one runs FSX, the other is for other things, charts, paperwork, movies on long flights, etc..... The resolution is set to 1680 x 1050 x 32 on both monitors. If there is something I could do to get more than 20-30 fps on my flights do tell, but, well I will be honest..... so long as I get 20+ on a flight I am all set with this setup, as anymore then 20 fps you cant tell otherwise.
@ Sklyar, yes sir, I've been flying around all the last few days or so with the sliders all the way to the right. On rare circumstances I will turn down the sliders a little, like when i was in this past weeks FNO into Hobby and was really busy in the area. Just so I never dropped below 20 fps and it still looking "smooth" Id rather have smooth frames then really pretty and choppy

Your Res is running really high so I see where the impact would come from.
The human eye sees 25FPS as smooth. Most console games run at 30FPS.
I don't run my FS at 20-35 because it just looks choppy, I can tell the difference between 30 and 60 easily.
The reason it doesn't appear smooth on a monitor is because for a television it goes through much more things to achieve the fluidity.
I think the 25FPS on a monitor (for me at least) is the 60FPS at the 60Hz clock.
60FPS Monitor = 25FPS TV because of the refresh rate. It's what I've come to see.
If I drop the FPS lock to 59 or so it becomes a stuttering mess and I did go through some testing for it.
Orbiter Space Flight Simulator give me 300FPS but that's worthless since we can't notice that far.
So the 60FPS just looks the same to me as 300FPS.
Just something I've noticed.
If you need help with tweaking your system let me know.
Regarding my post question it still hasn't been answered.

Aye I'm running most of my sliders at about 3/4 the way over and get an average of ~30 or so on the ground. DVA averages when I am not focused on the FSX window so my average fps is much lower with that
