Anyone got this combination? I saw someone with it and they had alls sectionals, low and high altitude enroute charts and approaches loaded on the IPad. And it is $75 a year for the subscription. And it has GPS. That could put Jeppesn and Garmin out of business. Yeah...right. Actually I am more concerned with how long IPad and Foreflight will be around. Any comments on these products? Does it cost a lot to get the wireless and 3G network ( I am not even sure they are the same thing).

you want an app that will make you say WOW!?, that would be foreflight.
It's amazing.

The iPad and it's follow on type devices will be the standard soon. I have one with 3G ($20 a month plan) and it is way cool and actually a useful device.

Scott:
Was searching the forums for iPad-related posts, and saw yours. I actually just wrote a small "review" a few minutes ago in another thread about ForeFlight HD. I have the combo, and I love it.
The other thread with my quasi-review a few posts down: http://www.deltava.org/thread.do?id=0x17a45
Additional comments: Yeah, it works just fine on both a Wireless Network and 3G. The bandwidth isn't enormous for charts, but if you use it enough on 3G, you'll notice. It's very zippy on a wireless network, though. Honestly, I haven't used it in a real cockpit at altitude yet - I'm not certain what types of 3G (or EDGE) services I'd get with it up here in Maine at 8,500 ft. I haven't gone out for a RW flight since obtaining the app and subscription. However, you CAN download the charts and keep them ON the iPad device if you wish, removing the need for an in-flight data connection. You can save charts and plates on a per-chart/plate basis, or download them on a per-area basis, which is likely better in the event that a route-changing emergency arises.
I can't imagine it'll put Jeppesen out of business, considering your subscript through ForeFlight is to help pay Jeppesen their portion of the fees... I think the yearly subscription is about $75. I can't remember what I paid, but it was about that range and includes all IFR/VFR for the US. Considering I pay about $8-$12 per sectional in the real-world, it's obviously a steal, considering you need about two updates of paper charts per year at least.

I'm a fan. The GPS is only available on the 3G capable iPad, and a 3G subscription is not required. Download all your charts over home wifi and you'll never need the connection. The GPS is very accurate for what it is, however, it's accuracy starts degrading around FL200. Keep in mind these are NOS charts, no Jepp, if that matters to you. Jepp has their own app, which has been certified for Part 135 use. $75 for regular subscription, $150 for the Pro version, which basically unlocks georeferenced taxi diagrams and plates.

Thanks guys. Since I posted this, I have gotten IPhone and got the Foreflight software. Love it! Eventually I'll get an IPad.
EDIT: I still have paper sectionals on board - the IPhone is too small for me to get a quick sense of the air space. I really use it for weather.
