I just recently had my computer worked on and had to reinstall FSX and everything that goes with it. Since then whenever I try to fly the movements stutter and are very jerky. Also the sound stutters badly. At first I thought this was a graphics card issue so I tried to update my video card but it said that I had the most current version available. Because I had my computer worked on I do not have a restore point I can go to. Before having the computer worked on FS ran very smoothly and I had no problems. I still suspect a video card issue but not quite sure how to fix it. Btw, my wife runs Sims3 and it seems to run just fine. Any help would me appreciated. I am in no way an expert with computers so please keep replys at a novice level. My specs are listed below:
FSX
Vista
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS (260.99)
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU @ 2.40 GHz
RAM 4.00 GB

Why don't you try rolling back to the earlier video card driver. That seems to be a habitual problem with nVidia drivers. 260.89 or earlier

So do you think this sounds like a video card issue?

Almost sounds like another program may be hogging CPU cycles. If you have anti virus, did you try disabling it temporarily? Have you looked at your current framerates in FSX to see if in fact they are dropping?

I haven't disabled my anti-virus. I'll ckeck my framerates and see if they are dropping. I need to find this problem...it's keeping me from flying at all. I'm also going to look into what Andy said about going to a previous driver. If anyone else has had this problem please let me know how you fixed it.

Matt, we believe we got a virus that was freezing programs. My FS seemed to be immune to it but it was affecting other programs. We pretty much had the computer set back to its factory settings and had to start over with everything. It seems like everything is working well except for FS. It starts up and will fly but is very jerky and almost unflyable. If it's a driver issue it doesn't seem to affect the other programs...just FS.

I am having the same issue and it onlly effects FSX, I have updated all drivers and tweaked my video card and setting from min to max and it does not change the stuttering. I do not believe it is the hardware being maxed out either. Anyone else finding a problem? My current computer specs are: I7-920 chip,12g ram, 600g hard drive, and a Geforce 285 1g video card, all running on win7 64 bit os, I have yet to find a cure for what ills FSX.
