Hey Guys, I recently purchased a new vid card for my system and now I need a larger power supply and I have looked online and can't seem to find one that is compatible with my motherboard. I didn't realize when I purchased the vid card that I had to have that large of a power supply. I have a Dell Dimensions E310 desktop and none of the power supplys that I find online have the correct connector to connect it to the motherboard. On the motherboard, it is a 24 pin connector and all the ones I see online are a 20+4 pin connector. Are these compatible with my motherboard? Does anyone have a 350w or larger power supply lying around that they would want to part with? Please feel free to email me Thanks guys!
Cheers!

20+4 is still a 24 pin connector. On a 20+4 pin PS a group of 4 pins can be separated from the cable for mobo's that only use 20 pins.

yes..the 20+ 4 pin will work. They split the connector to accomodate older MB's. You also need to look at the orientation of how the supply is set up. It may not fit correctly in the DELL case.

If you can find an acceptible replacement that is rated at 500w, you might want to consider it. Always a good idea to run a power supply at a lower duty cycle

Okay guys when I get my new PS home is there anyone here I could call if I need some help? I've never installed a new PS before and I really don't want to have to take it to a shop to have it installed. I don't think it should be that difficult to install, isn't it just unhooking everything from the old one and taking it out of the case and putting the new one back in it's place? Then hooking everything back up the way it was before?
Cheers!

That was very educational Devin, but it really doesn't talk about hooking all the connections up on the motherboard, that is what I am most concerned about so that I don't blow up my motherboard lol!
Cheers!

Just hook it up as the old one was ( I just did this). Disconect one old connection, and put in the same type from the new PS in the same spot. Repeat untill the nothing is left connecting the old one and the computer and you are done!
(btw I am not sure about a $60 one from wal-mart, as it probaly isn't of the best duribility, but I hope it works for you!)

I recently installed an 850 watt in mine, was worried for same reasons as you. I marked each electrical connection, both the board's and the power supply cable, with colored tape, each connection had a different color, before I disconnected them. When I installed the new one I compared the electrical connector on the old with the new and matched them up on the board. I also counted how many connections on the board to ensure I didn't miss any. I think it would be veeery bad to forget to hook up the cooling fan for the CPU!

Well I finally got the new power supply installed and it's all up and running now. Now I just have to see what kind of improvements it's gonna make to FS9 and finally see how well FSX is going to run now that I have a descent vid card running.
Cheers!
