Hey guys,
I bought the geForce 9800GT card and it has DVI outputs on it and I found my monitor has DVI inputs. So I did some researching to find out what DVI even was. It turns out it is a higher definition than the VGA connector. That brings me to my question, does anyone here run the DVI connectors instead of the VGA, and does it make much of an improvement? Trying to see whether I will go buy one today or not.
Thanks!

I only use DVI .... not sure what the benefits are opposed to VGA are off the top of my head though. I'm sure you could find out from wikipedia or something.

VGA is pretty much 20th century, as far as I'm concerned.

From what I have read, converting DVI to VGA (Digital to analog) there is some loss in quality. But others I have read said sometimes it can be not very noticeable. Im running an LCD monitor so I would imagine running a DVI to it instead of VGA, it would improve quality but I am not sure.

I'm not sure I'm following what you're saying. If the monitor and video card both have DVI connectors, just buy a DVI cable (dirt cheap) and use that. You'll notice an improvement.

My monitor has VGA in and DVI in. It came with the VGA connector with the monitor and my video card came with the DVI-VGA converter. So, I have the VGA hooked up right now and am considering buying the DVI cable to replace the VGA set up if there is much of an improvement. Sorry, does that make sense now?

Crystal clear. Yes, you will only get VGA quality with that setup. I'd invest the $10 into a DVI cable to get the full performance out of your video card and monitor.

Good to know! I couldn't find very much from others that made a clear yes or no answer as to whether it makes a difference. I thought it should but wanted to make sure before I spend more money. The cheapest in my area is $16, which is still not bad. Thanks, Ill run and pick one up today!

Just beware that there are several types of DVI connectors and a cable meant for one type will not fit the other. If you GOOGLE the topic, you should be able to find some pictures to verify what you have. You could also compare the two DVI connectors on your PC and monitor.

Both my card and monitor have the DVI-D connectors. Is that what you mean?

You are on the right track Kyle. The center pin is the key. One is flat and the other a cross. Just make sure you get a cable that fits that center pin.
