Today I got a new Nvidia Geforce 9800GT to replace my old Radeon 5450 graphic card. I got it for $109 at Best Buy on sale. Was this a good buy, and will I see a big difference in FSX?

Ryan,
I am in the process of building a complete/dedicated FSX rig from scratch. What I have discovered in my many months of research on all things FSX related (particularly PC issues), yes, you may see some improvement. I also run a 9800GT which replaced my old ATI 4870 Card. That coupled with a RAM upgrade actually allowed me to use FSX at pretty good settings. My 9800 GT and 6 Gigs of RAM are running on an AMD Phenom Quad Core at 2.2 Ghz...that is the constant source of my frustration. If you do allot of reading about FSX you will discover that FSX is much more CPU dependent that GPU dependant (the opposite of FS9).

I have 2 x 9800GTX's and I have given up on that rig. Constant CTD's playing FSX. I have bought a name brand computer, and hope that I can finally get some flight time back in..

Ryan, I just bought the 9800GT 1024MB a few days ago and love it! Im running FS9 at full settings and the lowest frames I get is 18 (I am only running 1GB RAM too) and I can run FSX too! But I think my problem is with FSX, I dont have enough RAM to have it run smooth all the time. Here is how FSX looks with my 9800GT http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/CosmoCougarRocks/Sim/KYLE-GAMING-2010-dec-27-019.jpg so you should be happy with it. Let us know!

ACP Schwab has reinforced my point exactly. Having the latest, greatest, and most powerful GPU may not solve your woes with FSX. FSX needs processing speed!!! Adding hundreds of dollars in graphics cards might give you somewhat of a boost, but otherwise, spend the money on a good CPU and MOBO.

I'm with Chuong Stick with XP. I also have 2x9800s running across six monitors (Matrox TripleHead2Go off one output) and everything is running peachy.

I have to say that windows 7 has been flawless on my machine. I saw a significant improvment with the overall performance of my machine the day I installed windows 7. I never have problems with crashes of glitches. I would suggest getting the 64 edition for sure.
