I need your help. Most of you won't be able to, but I'm pretty confident that at least one person reading this will be.
Terry is likely going to issue a NOTAM in the next few days regarding communications from Delta Virtual, and which sources are legitimate and which aren't. Generally, if you don't see if published via the web site, ACARS or from a deltava.org address, it's not legitimate. (And with the last, headers can and have been forged but at least you can always respond and verify the authenticity of the message.)
We have a good number of younger members, who participate on our site with the approval of their parents because we try to be a safe and trustworthy destination on the Internet for their children. Some times it means we're a little more milquetoast than we could be, but I think it's a good tradeoff for giving younger people good learning experiences and interaction with adults. A few days ago, one of our younger members was the unfortunate recipient of a message supposedly from me to his mother, accusing him of profanity and abusive behavior, and someone has been claiming to me on various online chat forums. Now I don't use a gmail account, especially not for official communications. We've managed to straighten the situation out, but I don't appreciate people impersonating me and causing grief for our younger members, especially those who haven't done anything wrong and shown a maturity beyond their years (or peers!).
Now since this came from a gmail account, I can't get the origin header with the source IP address. But I'm going to take a page out of the Google book by solving a complex problem by distributing it widely, then consolidating the results. So, I'm offering a bounty on the following e-mail address:
iamawizard22@gmail.com
Who's behind this e-mail address? Have you gotten anything from them? Let me know.
I'm not interested in random speculation or rumour. I need something that approaches actual proof or evidence. If you provide it to me, I will be eternally grateful to you, and at some point I imagine I can convey my gratitude in a more tangible way. If you're a co-conspirator, this is your opportunity to perhaps escape before someone beats you to a deal. If it's your e-mail address, then this is your chance to confess and I might be generous and marginally more forgiving. Your call.
It's unfortunate that we have this kind of immaturity here at Delta Virtual. I'm confident some of you can help me eliminate it.
Cheers!
