All national and major airliners have an ATC rep that briefs pilots on new procedures or reinforce ATC procedures for the crew. I would love to do something like this for DVA being that I'm an real world Air Traffic Controller and I can provide a high level of quality instruction and interpretation on these items. Comments??? I think working at ATL Tower in the real world qualifies me!

I don't know if anything formal would be/has been set up, but if someone has information pertinent to DL Operations at ATL -- or anywhere for that matter -- I think it'd be great to have a post here in the Watercooler so that all DVA pilots can be aware. For example, maybe you can give us an update on the taxiway construction at ATL?

All the fun taxiway closures we had this summer is over except for Lima East of Juliet because of the access roads that trucks go back and forth on are scared of wing tips

You know, there could be some logic to a controller position here at Delta, but not so much a full time position. What if we had a Captain or a Sr Captain serve as a facility coordinator for our hubs. They would be responsible for coordinating with the respective ARTCCs. This is a real world position which actually could serve much benefit to the DVA community...
Thoughts
Regards,
Dylan

It does sound like a good idea, but would it be necessary for a position to inform you of taxiway closures and things of that nature that are often issued NOTAMs ?
However sometimes accessing those NOTAMs is a pain, and for those who like Sim very realistically there could just be a sticky that is updated at every taxi way opening/closing at KATL or other news that would correspond with what the "DVA ATC" position would be.
I actually do think it's a really good idea and obviously with your ATL expierence it is something you could more than likely handle. The issue I see arising is how to get this information to the pilots, and communicating with them?

Part of the Dispatch Operations plan is to provide Ramp Controller duties during an event. Some issues have prevented us from doing that, but here is how it would work. A pilot would contact Dispatch via ACARS and get clearance, push and start clearance and taxi off the ramp to a Spot location where they contact Ground. Inbounds would contact Ramp once they enter the ramp operations area. I hope to have this program running soon, as it would add that much more realism to an event.

I was just thinking about this as I'm going through controller training. Great to see it's in the works. Definitely will add to the realism. Thanks for letting us know, David.

I have worked dispatch a couple of times when they have tested it and let me tell you, it will rock when they get it perfected. Everything flows so well and the nights that we did it, the Delta pilots were up in the air much faster.

That would be nice to help free up the controllers' frequencies from clearance requests.

I've been lobbying for use of pre-departure clearances (PDC) on VATSIM for a long time for just that reason. This gets a thumbs-up from me!

What i would like to see is some kind of operations manual for our major hubs, which would state something like what Terminals does Delta use what runways are usually in use (especially in airports like KATL where you have 2 sets of rwys that are very similar)

They would be more realistic......but not all airlines have that and why would just one airline do that. Not every airline is huge with a huge pilot base. I for one belong to several other VAs and fly real world. You would never see this happen, I have pushed for Flight Service Stations and their not happening either

Having Dispatch control ramp ops is a great idea indeed. Making sure scenery's match up might be more important for the closer proximity.
