I still don't have the time (1 year old and 3 year old kids plus both parents work fulltime) to chill out in the office and fly FS -- but I am thinking ahead to perhaps later this year/next year when I can finally re-learn how to fly online... I have read that Microsoft is going to develop "Microsoft Flight" as a successor to the Flight Simulator Franchise. Am curious as to what folks think based upon the few demos posted online... Also, my Dell XPS 600 is now over 5 years old and I'm again contemplating an iMAC purchase -- would love to know if any MAC users on here can comment on windows performance and FS X on imac or latest mac book pros. I'm dealing with withdrawal by using X-plane for IPAD but I do sorely miss flying for DVA... thanks for any input/comments/suggestions y'all may have.

Eric - I have FS9 and FSX on my Macbook Pro, and running through BootCamp - FS9 runs great - FSX runs ok. I also use X-Plane on the Mac for instrument currency.
There's a couple Mac threads in here I'll see if I can find them.
As far as the Flight coming out - I think it is going to be geared more towards the flying "arcade" crowd.

"Many of you are concerned that because we want to appeal to a wider audience, we must be building an arcade game.
We don’t need to create an arcade game to welcome a wider audience. But we do need to improve the total user experience if we’re to be successful in welcoming new audiences into the experience of Flight. The passion and fascination of flight is powerful, with so many different aspects to aviation and different levels of enjoyment to experience. There is distinct value and strength to be gained by welcoming a wider audience, and we can’t claim to have done the best job of it in the past.
What does appealing to a wider audience mean?
It means improving the user-interface experience, achieving better performance on today’s hardware, providing more focused challenges for people who aren’t quite sure what to do next, and introducing more persistent experiences for people who return often. It also means keeping alive the freedom to go where you want, when you want, and to do what you want. Regardless of their hardware power, piloting experience, or level of interest, many people have enjoyed the traditional flight-simulation experience as a solitary activity. We see a compelling social aspect to the experience inherent in the fun, and we need to better enable and support this dynamic to strengthen the entire Flight experience for everyone.
Based on the previous webisode, we’ve heard, “This doesn’t look any different from FSX!”
As we said in the introduction, we’re still early in the development cycle, so the fact that you comment on the similarity to FSX is great! This comment alone should ease some of the arcade concerns. Please follow along with our progress as we continue to release more webisodes, screenshots, and additional information. In the end, we hope that you’ll have a great time looking back at these early samples and being part of the evolution. Thank you for all your enthusiasm and support!

We need to make sure as many people buy it as we can get, so we can be swimming in cash.

We're going to find a way to make it so everyone has pay to play online.
Blah, blah, blah. It's all about money. I'm happy with FSX. Sorry MS, I'm done paying your wages.

How would that imply paying for online playing?

How can multiplayer be any simpler than it is now? It may not exactly imply that, but you can't tell me that nobody at MS thought about it. Heck, Xbox live is a pay service, while all other gaming platforms are free.

True, put it that way and I can definitely see MS charging a fee so that you must pay to play online.

Hmm... I think I'll just stick with FS9 and go on VATSIM when I want to "play" online. I don't see Microsoft coming out with any pro controllers, such as joysticks, yokes and rudder pedals to stick in the X-Box. I'm sure the scenery is lovely, but I don't see their target audience as serious flight simmers. They're obviously going to where the money is, and creating an online service that'll be charging a monthly fee. I hate to say it, but I can foresee someone who is attempting to fly realistically, and being constantly attacked by 747's!

From what ive seen from the addon market now at our disposal i.e. rex flytampa vatsim pmdg etc etc we already have the tools to do as good as FLIGHT or better. All i would like to see come out is Google Earth type scenery that is able to autogen with user friendly frame rates and is able to incorporate the above mentioned addons.

I find it interesting that many people whine about FSX. It is what it is. It could have been made to be more stable and to fully take advantage of new hardware, but it wasn't. I don't see any other company making a flight simulator that comes anything close to what FSX offers. We shall just wait and see what Flight is like - if you don't like it, you don't have to buy it. Just stick to FS9 or FSX. Heck, there are people still using FS2002. It's not like DVA is going to phase out support for FS9 and FSX in the near future.

I would rather see a well programmed fix or service pack for FSX then this arcade-game focused 'flight', it will not aim at the pro's and having that depth....
why is MS not updating FSX anymore, i don't get it...

Cause they fired everyone that built fsx and serviced it as well, and as they clearly stated, they are well on their way to producing the next sim.

In the long haul, I see all of us having to switch to XPlane, or Flight Gear getting a team together to make it into something. Microsoft has written us all off as unprofitable.

I agree, I'm buying the new X-Plane when it is release to try it out, if it's good I'll wait for an ACARS for it, and I'm set.
However, that's if it's good.
I saw above talk about the Xbox, is Flight being released for that?

i don't thank the X-box will be able to put out the FPM for FS to work well, besides I don't want to have to pay to play online, I stick with my PS3 and computer.
