I just finished disassembling, inspecting / cleaning, and reinstalling the components of my system (E8600 3.33, 6GB RAM, NVIDIA 9500 GT), reformatting and reloading Win7Pro64 with FS9. Along with that, I've updated all drivers and saw no problems during install. Images 1, 2 and 3 are all from this last install, which is clean, zero add-ons, no sceneries, default MS 172 at SEA. I've no idea WTF, eh? Curiously, those images look like PMDG_744.jpg, which was from the previous install with an ATI card.
So my question is what am I doing wrong? The images will flicker between "explosions" and happens on all a/c models as well as terrain and objects. Frankly, I figured the 744 "explosion", which was back in 09, was an indication of a failing GPU, so I got this Nvidia thing instead. Now, I'm not so sure. Also, with this PC, I'm getting >single digit< FPS in FSX with sliders mid-range with PMDG, FSDT and Alacrity. Forgive my profound ignorance as it's been a year since I'd committed to daily flying, however, I seem to recall that FS9 was CPU intensive vice GPU. Is that also the case for FSX or has that priority moved to GPU? Using TweakFPS for FSX, I can get excellent FPS when set for IFR mode. Not an interesting flight that way.
Cheers!!

It looks like your reflection textures have gone wacko...no suggestions on how to fix other than maybe adjust your textures within FS (turn off reflections)

Fellas, I really do appreciate the suggestions and here's what I've come up with so far:
*Dan, this is a fresh, clean install of OS and FS9/FSX. FS9 has the .1 update but no other add-ons (scenery, a/c, etc.) Default flight and a/c.
*Mike, I do not see these artifacts whilst my son plays Splinter Cell 4 on this rig, so I'm fairly certain heat is not the issue. However, I will look into temp sensors for the C/GPU & case.
*Any, I hadn't thought of that but checked and Reflections were already disabled (default).
Again, thanks for the help and I hope the DVA boffins will come through.
Cheers!!

After looking at the pictures again, it is the bottom reflection textures of the fuselage that are doing that....definitely cool looking, but why it's doing that is unclear to me.
Maybe go into your FSX Config file and check that your textures show TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024 (where the 1024 is not more than your max on board).

Hey, Andy! Thanks for the suggestion but I failed to clarify that last snap, PMDG_744.jpg, was a comparison of what the system was doing back in 09 which convinced me to dump the ATI card for the Nvidia nor did I tell ya'll that the last snap was FS9 not FSX like the previous three. Sorry for the lack of information but I do appreciate ya'll's help with this. Perhaps another clue: I have two ASUS VW192T+ 19" monitors and prefer to have one monitor set to 2D cockpit and the other shows outside views, whatever. Tonight, whilst installing FSUIPC/WideFS, I found that the flicker didn't occur if I did NOT have a second window opened on the second monitor. Curiouser and curiouser. What say ya'll?
Cheers!!

As an update, this does not happen at cruise but during all other phases of flight. It also does this in >BOTH< FS9 and FSX. I'm confused that it happens with either a Radeon or Geforce cards. Mobo issue?? I'm really surprised that this system will take such a FPS hit at FSDT's JFK.
Cheers!!

Have you tried going to the latest drivers available from Nvidia? Or, if you've done that, perhaps make a few steps backward in firmware and that could help.

Joel, thanks for the suggestion. The drivers are the latest for this card, which I did as part of the original OS reinstall; though I haven't thought of rolling back to an older version. Not sure what you meant by firmware, however. I'm still wondering why this would happen with two different GPUs, Radeon and Geforce, and two different programs, FS9 & FSX. Hmmm...
Cheers!!

Sorry, I should have said drivers both times. Often I'll hear drivers interchanged for firmware. Another thing is, do you have enough power going to the video card? If this issue has happened with various GPU's, it could be something with power. Might check to make sure that everything is seated well in the computer.
