Hi guys,
since upgrading and modding my 980X with a water cooling system, I mistakenly bought another HD5970 dual gpu and noticed later that FSX (as posted in other forums) is not utilizing the second GPU which is true also on my setup. Anyone knowing a workaround for this, there is a tool called ATI crossfire Xtenstion which would use both GPUs, however it does not work in my system since I have a complicated setup...(long storry)
Unfortunaley I only get around 30-60 fps out of it and it and with heavy scenery sometimes just 15fps at airports. fsx.cfg is tweaked as well.
i7-980X at 4Ghz, 12GB GSkill, OCZ Revo2 240GB, HD5970 (plus another one which I will install this weekend), CM1000Watt Silent, Aquaero 4 USB, 8 Rads, 2x MCP35X, Bose Companion 5, Win7 64 Bit
The rig runs otherwise flawlessly and I am having only issues with FSX which is bothering me a lot..
Appreciated, thanks

the problem is with your bose companion 5.
seriously, your system should run fsx just fine. have you done any tweaks to your fsx setup/cfg?

Thanks Daniel
What you mean with the Bose Companion 5 would be the problem exactly?
I have noticed once that when i was using a wireless USB stick that the BOSE was not working anymore and I assumed it was too much power the BOSE used from the USB ports, now I have added a USB hub which is powered for the Saitek and CH Gear but I could use the BOSE on that one and see if I get better performance.
Yes I did some tweaks but they could be more improved I assume, still working on it though
Another issue I have (the long story not mentioned yet) is that you can see on the first PCI Express Slots sits a 5450 which is used to boot up my system since if I am using the 5970 my system wont boot, this is an isolated case as ASUS told me for my Rampage III Extreme board and they wont provide me with a fix. In short, I have to use the 5450 on first PCIE to boot into BIOS and OS, after I have only the 5970 activated in Win7 to use with FSX but its on second slot so its running on x8 instead of x16, now I am trying to add the second 5970 in CF with the first 5970 to see whether performance increase but I guess I am doomed with the 5450 on first slot since FSX is using this card as the primary card (although tweaked in FSX.cfg with the 5970)
I could of course buy a new board but with the hours of work invested it seems not feasible... I am really stuck here...ups
Crossfire btw works fine for other games supporting it so it would also not make sense to buy a new board only for FSX...
any help aprpeciated

Have you looked at this site? http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html
I highly recommend it ..... and with your rig set the external frame limiter to 60 instead of 30

I was just goofing around regarding the bose companion. seemed like unnecessary information, so i gave a silly response. tweaking fs9 or fsx is as simple as searching the internet. you could find dozens of tweaks, suggestions, ideas to help you. for instance, i still run fs9 with a moderate computer. for the longest time i had issues with stuttering in cloudy areas. i was bent on not reducing my cloud textures to a lower resolution because i had this fancy computer. i finally reduced the resolution.. didn't see a visual difference, but my simming became smoother.
you have a fantastic computer, doubtful anyone here would disagree with that. unfortunately fsx is not perfect (i am sure everyone would agree with that)... and it is probably expected, that even with your system, certain things need to be given up.
hopefully someone else can chime in.

Yeah I guess so and next time I would not stick to a dual GPU card anymore and stick to single only with FSX, however I am still stuck now with 2x HD5970 and I guess will keep it for the next 2 years like this and have to live with it but the tweaks are appreciated and will try the link as recommended from bojote jesus....

Don't be disappointed by the frames....its not your computer, its FSX. FSX was just not designed very well...in my opinion. There are some real graphic intense first person shooter games that my frames go through the roof, but with FSX 30 is about the norm for me....which, really is fine. I just finished a new build of FSX is real smooth.
