I am in the market for a new video card which has been a long time due. I would like to get an AGP 256 DDR card but I am not sure the best card to go with.
I found a bunch of video cards under $100 here:
http://www.directron.com/agp256.html
I currently have a 64MB card so even the lowest performer of the 256ddr cards is going to be a welcome change.
If you have any thought on any of these cards and your experience with any I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Tony Dalman

Graphics cards are really little computers - they have a GPU and memory, and both need to be fast/large. Don't fall into the trap of buying a slow computer with lots of memory - do you believe that a 800 Mhz PIII with 2GB of RAM is really faster than a 3Ghz PIV with 512MB? Same principle.
I would go for something like a 9800Pro with 128MB of RAM right now. Coupled with a decent computer it should let you turn up the graphics settings on FS9 a LOT. I have a 2.8Ghz PIV with 1GB of PC3500 and a 9700 Non-Pro, and with FSSkyWorld cloud textures I pretty much am locked at 29-32FPS all the time.
Cheers!

So you would go with the ATI RADEON 9800PRO 128MB DDR AGP Video Card over say the BFG GeForce FX 5500 OC 256MB Video Card.
I wonder if there is a site somewhere where you can compare all these in some sort of excel like presentation. That way I can compare everything side by side and make sure I am getting the best graphics card for my $$.

Tony, go to tom's hardware guide - great stuff here
http://www.tomshardware.com
it's a technical site for geeks
they do comparisions on video cards, CPUs, etc. even ATI versus Nvidia based cards. btw, whichever way you go, ATI and NVIDIA are both great cards.
good luck!

Tony, that ATI 9800 would slaughter an FX5500 (and I'm a Geforce guy). I went from an FX5700 OC to a 6600GT OC and the difference was gigantic, but the 6600GT was a $200 video card.

And I am guessing $138 with shipping is a good price to pay for the card?
Maybe I better go the 9800pro way than and hope for the best.

Tony,
Go here and get your card..its an ATI 9800 pro.
http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=190675&AFFIL=pricewatch&NR=1
I am going to get that instead of the FX 5200 256DDR,and its cheaper than the GeForce GT6600.

Go to www.pricewatch.com. This is where you will find the most rock bottom prices on things you want to get for your computer.

yes,it is,but you just cant go there and buy the cheapest item you see...click the buy now link and read the specs for the product you are wanting to buy.If it doesnt say what you want, close the vendor window and continue down the line of items inthe search window.
I neverrr even look at anything that comes up on the 1st page..say video cards...page one will show you the lowest prices...typically those items are of generic or lower grade items....they may show a ATI Radeon 9800pro for 75.00 on there...but when you go to the vendors website via the Buy Now link, you take a closer look at ther product..it may not hace a nice large heatsink and fan on it..it may not have a 4pin power connector on it...e.t.c....shop and research before you buy...that goes for anywhere else also.
cheers,
Joe

Yeah, plus some of those places can be shady dealers... I buy stuff from zipzoomfly.com personally... sometimes other places, but mainly there...

Fry's Electronics is pretty good, too: http://www.outpost.com
I don't like pricewatch.com personally. I've looked through that website and got the feeling it was like a computer component flea market.
