Hey people, i've had my current laptop since jan 2011 and she proformed great. However in the last two days i've noticed a dramatic decrease in the battery life i get out of her. I understand if the battery is always charging and stuff that what it retains is reduced however i do drain it down to 10% once a week to help get around this problem. However when i went for it's drain last night i noticed the battery life of around 1h 30min-2H ish with itunes on and internet went to just 20min! and the recharge time from 10% is only like ten minutes now.
Batteries age. That is a fact of life. I don't know what battery you have in your laptop, but from that time frame it's probably lithium ion. Lithium ion batteries aren't as subject to charge memory as the old nickel cadmium batteries. With lithium ion batteries, the charge cycles are what matter more. You say it charges from 10% in 10 minutes. To what? Lithium ion batteries charge fast initially, and then trickle charge as they approach their capacity.
I made sure the correct graphics processer is on (have one of those duel GPU's One High Proformance and one Power-saver GPU) i've been told that freezing the battery in the freezer overnight (in a bag with no moisture Obviously) can reset it and also help with heating problems i've been having lately (i've twice recorded CPU temps over 87 C in two weeks) but i'm not sure. Is there other methods (apart from getting a new battery) that can help?
Freezing the battery isn't going to improve its life, or "reset" it. There is also no physical reason it should. The people on the internet saying it does are suffering from the subject-expectancy effect. The overheating problem has nothing to do with your battery. That is in no way electrically possible. The more likely scenario is your 1.5 year old laptop needs to be blown out with compressed air, because the ventilation has become compromised. Go to the store and buy a new battery and a can of compressed air.
