Installing FSX onto Windows 8.1 Pro.
1: Run the installer as normal, no compatibility mode. Insure that you are installing into a directory off of the C:,
2: Because of the changes to the UAC controls we will now need to adapt the permissions for (users). Goto the FSX install folder and right click on it and select properties. Then click security followed by advanced and give full control to the users group. Click apply and then ok and leave the properties window.
3: Install Service pack one as normal. no compatibility mode
4: Install Acceleration or SP2 as normal, no compatibility mode
5: Goto the FSX folder and right click on fsx.exe and select properties. then goto the compatibility tab. Then select run as vista with SP2. also check run as administrator.
6: when installing ACARS you will want to run the installer in compatibility mode for vista SP2, the same goes for the fleet 777(one may also conclude that this may apply to other fleet installers as well). besure during the installer to check the box for FSUIPC.
7: Make sure you add the highmem fix to your fsx.cfg file.
FYI, I have tried the installers in windows 7, vista, and vista SP2. None of them worked except vista with SP2. If you start to receive sidebyside errors that relate to simconnect, chances are that you stopped somewhere during the process and ran FSX without installing the service packs and the simconnect became corrupt. If this has happened check your
C:/windows/winsxs/ folder for anything that contains “simcon”, if you do not have 3 seperate folders then you have to start over again.
