Prior to the 747-200 added in 1970, Pan Am flew round-the-world in the Boeing 707 which was quite a capable 154 seat 4-jet aircraft with a range of over 5,300nm.
Under PAH in the schedule you'll find flight numbers 1200 through 1203 (multiple legs) with an actual round-the-world route flown with 707's. This route will take you through Istanbul, Beirut, Bahrain, Karachi, Calcutta and Myanmar. Gives you quite a perspective as to what the world was like in 1959.
Strangely, Pan Am had already been flying around the world for over 11 years before the first jet was added to its fleet in 1958.
Enjoy!

Wait a minute, I just noticed that those flights go into VTBS, an airport that didn't exist at the time. Could you please correct them to go to Don Mueang Airport?

Good catch Darren. I had to go look up to verify. The PA schedule says BKK but this changed to VTBS after Mueang closed. I need to find out if VTBD exists in FS2004 and FSX before I make the change. If anyone has FSX and can check, I can check in FS2004 this evening.

VTBD does exist in FSX! It is actually VTBS that I had to add into the scenery library. I found out, unfortunately, trying to land there without it! haha!

In fact, the airport never closed; most airlines switched to VTBS after it opened.

I didn't get to check FS2004. If someone can check if VTBD exists in FS2004, I'll make the correction.
Thanks again for the correction Darren!

Thanks for putting in these routes, VP Andrew. My wife's dad (deceased) was an early Pan Am B707 captain, and she can't remember if he flew the around-the-world route, but she remembers him flying to India and Thailand with both the DC-7C in the late '50s and the B707 in the early '60s.. I have the Captain Sim B707-320 in my hangar - I will definitely fly this route with her and invite my wife to be one of my stewardesses - that's what she wanted to be when she was pre-teen!
