Hi
I'm a new pilot and just changed fs2000 for fs2004. I've installed it but it keeps crashing every 2 minutes or so and I don't know what to do about it. I installed it coorectly following the instructions on disc. I installed the MD-88 from DVA and I've tried to fly routes but it will crash every 2 minutes or thereabouts. Does anyone know what's wrong?

Well, lets start with some basics. First, it would help to know your system specs and what operating system your on.
My first suggestion is to uninstall FS2004, do a disk clean, and a defrag, then reinstall. FS2004 hit the resources of you computer pretty hard. We can tweak things later to free up some resouces if needed.
Then after you've done that, do some flying and testing with the default aircraft before you try loading anything new at this point.

oh that happened to me too. every time i would start the game i could get to the plane but it would crash and i always had to restart my laptop. what you should do is download DirectX 9.0B from microsofts website. DirectX9.0A was the reason for my game crashing, so i called microsoft and they told me to install Directx9.0B, which fixed the problem 100%

Thanks guys. My computer is an AMD Athalon 2200+ (about 1.8GHz) and uses Windows XP Home edition version 2002. It has 512Mb or Ram. I have a v.good graphics card ( i think its N Videa Ge Force 4400 Ti). I appreciate your time an effort.

I can see you have the power to run FS9, so the computer is not the issue. Let us know if you try the disk clean, defrag, the reinstall.
Do you have DirectX 9.0b?
Also, I have an ATI video card, but I've heard that there were serious problems with some of the Ge Force drivers when FS first came out. Do you have the most up to date drivers for your video card? There are many people here at DVA that can help you with your video card better than I can, but that may be the issue.
Good luck

Yes, go to http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp and go through the update manager thing. The latest driver update gives FS9 a 4-5 FPS boost which in some cases, is a good boost.

David,
I uninstalled FS-9 and did disc cleanup, defrag and reinstalled but it didn't work. I had downloaded Directx 9.0b but it said that it wasn't installed after i had followed the steps, I have since found a 35.0MB file of Directx 9.0b and am currently installing that so, fingers crossed it should work. I'll also have a look at the NVidia updates and I'll also install all the XP updates and I'll let you know what happens. Thanks

I've noticed that Fs-9 only crashes when I'm flying. It's fine in the learning centre or when planning a flight etc but will crash sometime within 5 minutes once i start to fly. Could this be a problem with graphics?

This is strange. Did you say you got Direct X 9.0b? You might try doing a Windows Update. You know what, have you rebooted your PC at all in a while? It may seem strange, but probs like this can be fixed with a simple reboot. Try doing a complete shutdown and then turning it back on.
