Here are some IFR test questions from my IFR textbook.
1. (true/false) Runway visibility value (RVV) is normally reported in hundreds of feet.
2. (true/false) IFR takeoff minimums do not apply to private aircraft operating under FAR Part 91, but good judgment dictates compliance.
3. What is the recommended procedure if you do not use a DP?
A. Advise departure control upon initial contact.
B. Enter "NO DP" in the remarks section of the IFR flightplan.
C. No action is necessary since ATC will not assign a DP unless you specifically request it
4. (true/false) Textual DP's are published for all airports where terrian and/or onstacles could compromise a safe departure.
5. (true/false) After the controler advises "radar contact" you can assume that terrain and obstruction clearance will be provided.
6. Assume that you depart an airport in VFR conditions and obtain your IFR clearance after takeoff. How long are you responsible for your own terrain/obstruction clearance?
7. What dose it mean when ATC advises that your aircraft is in "radar contact"?
A. You can expect radar flight following.
B. You no longer need to watch for other traffic, even if you are in VFR conditions.
C. The controller no longer needs you to advise of any change in airspeed or performance.
8. If you attempt to contact the center after a handoff from departure control, and you get no response, what action should you take?
9. (true/false) Turns are made to the left in nonstandard holding patterns.
10. Assume you are flying toward the Kelly VOR on a magnetic heading of 15 degrees. What kind of holding pattern entry would be appropiate for the following clearance "...cleared to the Kelly VOR. Hold southwest on the 215 radial..."
A. Direct
B. Parallel
C. Teardrop
11. (true/false) ATC can include a STAR in your clearance even if you have not requested one.
12. What does a decend via clearance authorize you to do?
13. When does a minimum crossing altitude become a restriction when a STAR is used on an IFR flightplan?
A. When issued verbally as part of a clearance.
B. When the STAR is filed in an IFR flightplan.
C. only if the altitude is lower than the minimum altitude of an inital approach fix.
14. The missed approach point (MAP) for a precision approach ocurs when you reach the what?
A. Minimum decent altitude
B. Final approach fix.
C. Decision altitude.
15. The flight visibility is greater than the visibility prescribed in the standard instrument approach procedure being used: however, at the MDA you cannot identify any of the runway features described in FAR 91.175. Can you decend below the MDA for landing?
The answers will be posted in a post labeled "Answers to IFR fun test"
