This has happened to me three times now. I'm w/in 100 miles of ATL and ATC directs me to descend and gives me a heading that's perpendicular to my planned approach. Okay, I do that. A few minutes later, ATC closes out my flight plan. Until I joined DVA I hadn't flown in the continental United States, so either this is some wierd glitch - or I'm overlooking something that's different in the U.S. Anyone have an idea? Thanks!

Is this online or ofline?
if it's ofline, cancel IFR and load your flightplan again this might work, if it's not then I gues some of the pros here can help you.

Thanks Sander, forgot to mention that. It was offline. Presumably the online ATC is much more rational.

Yes, the online ATC is a lot more logical than that.

I think that crazyness is built into FS ATC so when FSo6 comes out everyone runs out any buys it hoping its all fixed. Iv'e had ATC canceled numerous times for no reason that I could figure out. I did a missed approach a while back and ATC gave me a heading and altitude to fly and never called again. Its nut sometimes.

Jennifer,
Does it only happen when flying into Atlanta?

Yes, only when flying into Atlanta. It's really odd because I had more than 300 VA flights before I came to DVA and never had this problem. But... those flights were all in Europe and Australia.

Jennifer:
Sounds like all you can do is re-file your flight plan. While your scenario hasn't happened to me (in FS2004) I have had them bring me down (FL and HDG) on initial approach in and then "forget" about me. This has occurred 2 or 3 times to me and is a pain to re-file, not to mention what it does to your time table, fuel management, etc. I suspect it's a glitch in the MSFS ATC audio files (?). I would assume the audio ATC responses are staged and set to react to your FL and HDG. Sometimes apparently, it over-looks your current situation. In your case, having a flight plan cancelled, sounds like a real issue. I also thought a flight plan wouldn't be cancelled in MS2004 unless you failed to respond to ATC (over a period of time). Hopefully, someone here has greater insight into this matter. I would be interested to know just how MSFS sequences its audio ATC commands.

It happens at Amsterdam if coming from the east and vectored to 06 or 07 (can't remember which one it is) out over the water. Everytime I've flown to Amsterdam from the east ATC never makes a reply after the vector.
I stopped landing at Amsterdam from the east. It doesn't happen when coming from the UK.

This must be one of those "undocumented features" of FS2004. Re-filing works, but it's annoying and results in delay. I'm curious that you had this problem at Amsterdam. I have probably 50 flights into Amsterdam and never had a problem with ATC. Hopefully someone more technically oriented than I will know what's going on when the ATC loses track. A fix would be even nicer!
