After starting Squawkbox everything moves at a very clow rate. After a few min. I get an error stating low virtual memory, "Flight Simulator will now close". If I don't get the error the frame rate is slow. Even when squawkbox is connected I do not see other planes or hear ATC. I am just learning, but I need help with this issue. I hope someone here at DVA can help. Thanks, James.
Here are my CPU specs.
Dell Dimension 4600C.
Processor: Intel® Pentium® 4 Processors supported by Intel® 865PE chipset including on-die 512K L2 cache, 3.06GHz with 3.20GHz with 800MHz FSB and HyperThreading Technology for lightning-fast speed.
Storage: Ultra ATA/100 EIDE hard drives from 40GB, 60GB, 80GB, 120GB to 200GB to meet your storage needs.
Video Graphics: The Dimension 4600C comes with Integrated Intel® Extreme Graphics 2 video technology.
I/O Ports: Eight USB 2.0 ports, two of which are easily front-accessible, offer instant flexibility and future expandability.
Sound: Integrated 5.1 Audio with Dolby Digital 5.1 capability combine with Altec Lansing ADA215 Speakers for great sound. Upgrade your speakers for multimedia-quality sound to Harman Kardon HK-395 with subwoofers or Altec Lansing ADA-745 speakers for 3D gaming and movie watching. Altec Lansing THX® Certified ADA-995 speakers are a six-piece set designed to deliver the home-theater experience on your Dell computer.
I am currently on a Cable internet connection.
I am totally lost....I have tried reinstalling everything from FS to Suawk box. I hope someone can help.

Here are a few things I'd try to make things run smoother:
1) Add more memory. You can never really have too much ram, and it's usually a pretty cheap fix for performance issues
2) Defragment your hard drive. The default windows tool is OK, or you can spend $$$ on system utilities that will do it for you (Symantec makes one)
3) Get rid of background applications. Hit CTRL-ALT-DEL before you start FS and shut down anything that's running in the background. The general idea is that you want to have as few icons as possible down by the clock, but keep in mind that some programs don't display an icon, so CTRL-ALT-DEL and shut those bad boys down
4) Download a program called Cacheman. I don't know the address, but either google it or search on download.com. Follow the directions to run it. Also, use the "Recover Memory Now" icon (it'll put one on your desktop upon install) before you run FS
Some people also have good luck with a program like FS Auto Start, available on AVSIM, that does some of these things for you. Also, I'd look at this website: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/SupportCD/OptimizeXP.html
That site has really good stuff to just optimize your system and keep things running smoothly, which generally equates to less error messages in all programs

Do you think it may be that I haven't registered the FSUIPC. I don't have the key code.

Hmm, I haven't heard of this being caused by FSUIPC, but I use the payware so I'm not 100% sure.

What is payware. Sorry for all the questions. BTW I just had a IT guy here at my office tell me how to reallocate my Virtual memory, I am going to try this as soon as I get home. He is a gamer. He sounded fairly sure that is my problem. I will post the fix in the cooler if this resolves the problem. Thanks for all your help.

There is a payware version of FSUIPC that you have to pay a small fee for in order to unlock (payware in general is any software that costs $$$). It gives you more functionality as well as easy compatibility with pretty much any software out there.
Hope your solution works. Let us know what you did if it does.
I think that reallocating the virtual memory is one of the procedures they go through on that Optimize XP website. It does take quite awhile to go through all of their different steps, but I found it to be well worth it.
Good luck,
Marc
PS: you don't ever have to apologize for questions, we've all asked tons of them over time, and that's what the forum is for, learning new stuff :-)

Well Marc,
Adjusting my virtual memory did help as far as speed and graphics the computer could run. But didn't help as far as getting connected and flying on Squawk Box. I plan on getting most of my flight time logged offline until I get this figured out. I appreciate all your help.
Thanks again,
James "Matt" Mitchell
