I feel from experience, that FS Navigator is the best. If you haven't tried it, you can for free first, then after 20+ flights, you have to register it.

Myriam, I use FSBuild. I love it! Iit has a export flight plan option to all the great software add-ons, FS9 and Squawkbox 3. FSBuild is payware but worth it. FSNav is good too.

My vote goes to FS Nav the more I use the better it seems to perform for me. Definitely a secret tool for success.

I agree I use FSBuild with Routefinder. Also the export function is one of the best. Drops into sb3, activesky, LDS-767 and FS2004.
I hve used FSNav and it to is a nice program. Nothing bad to say about either.
cheers,
Andrew

I don't mean to insult anyone's intelligence here, but just in case anyone has overlooked it, DVA offers a generous list (more than 12,900) of FAA preferred routes to and from more than 100 airports within the US and Canada. You can easily access it via your Pilot Centre. When I flew US domestic routes with DVA, this is what I turned to 9 times out of 10 for my routes. Hope this helps!

I have to agree with ya, Ryan. The prefered routes are great. I wish there was a way to download them in fsnav or fs9 format. Would make it much easier. For now I let fsnav make the route and then edit it so it becomes like the prefered route. Pain in the arse but once its saved its easy to recall.
Maybe dva2006 will have this???
I haven't tried fsbuild so I cant give an opinion on that.
Anyone think of any advantages using it over fsnav?

Antother place to get the routes is from the FAA here is a link to their site: http://www.fly.faa.gov/Products/Coded_Departure_Routes/CDM_Operational_Coded_Departur/cdm_operational_coded_departur.html
I just copy and paste into FSbuild or SB and Bobs your Uncle.

i also recommend this stie http://www.eleventhstreet.com/fb2/ShowPlans.aspx not only does it give you up todate accurate routes, also gives you the METAR for each airport very handy IMO.

I vote for the FSbuild / FSnav combo. FSbuild will export to SB3 and FSnav so I've only got to type in the route once or let it autogenerate. I believe it will also export to FS9 so then you can pick it up with ActiveSky/RADAR. I hate typing in the same route more than once!!!

Richard,
I went to the faa website you posted and searched for a flight plan from cvg to cak and it gave me 8 options. How do I know which is best to use? It also asks about a departure fix, do you know what that is?

The departure fix is the departure tansistion. i.e. if you go form ATL to BNA using the Atlanta Five departure, you would use either NOTWO or NOONE for the fix. I just leave it blank and pick the route that works best fo the flight that I want. I use maps to see which one looks the best to me. Sometimes it can have some pretty funky routing.
