once in a while I'll have a flight plan that is unfortunately not condusive to my route of flight. Basically I take off and when i go to proceed on course and let the autopliot have to controls it has to back track 10nm to the first checkpoint. I have tore up the forums and the online help, but there seems to be NO way to advance to the next waypooint. I refuse to believe that this is the case, what is the flippin key stroke so I can let the AutoPilot have it?

I'm not 100% sure if I understand the problem, but if you mess w/the buttons on the right side of the GPS, you can change your waypoints. For instance, once in a while I'm doing something (call it a head call) when ATC radios.. and because I'm in the head, I can't get to the radio. So they cancel my flight plan. I usually refile the plan, then push the middle button of the knob at the bottom of the GPS (that highlights the first fix of the flight plan, usually the airport). Then use the larger of the two knobs to go to the part of the flightplan I'm currently flying... say between VORS DEN and COS I find that segment of the flightplan, put the cursor on the part I want and hit the "ENT" button. A dialog box appears in the GPS that says "Activate?" and I push "ENT" again, and I'm good to go.
If that doesn't help, let me know. As I said, I'm not 100% that I understand your problem.

Chris, the only GPS with which you can advance on the waypoints in FS9 is the Garmin GPS 500. The 295 does not allow this feature, unfortunately.

I think it might be the OBS (Not sure) button that makes it backtrack to the last WP. Try clicking that and does the AC proceed on course after you backtrack to the first way point?

Chris, somewhere on your panel is a button labled GPS and Nav. That button needs to be in the GPS position for the aircraft to follow the Garmin unit. I believe the 757-200 only has a pushbutton labeled GPS. Push that puppy and it will light up and the a/c will follow the route. Don/t forget to turn it off once you are being vectored for landing.

In addition to John's note, in addition to using the GPS switch on your panel, you will need to use the NAV button once the AP is engaged to follow the GPS flight.
