I was playing on FS2004 yesterday and i was in the middle of a flight (on approach actually) when our neighborhood had a power surge or something and my computer went out, and all the electricity and stuff for about 20 minutes. Last night, when i went back on FS, it will start to load, then the screen will just go black. Eventually an error message will come up saying this program is not responding.(with the end now button) So I'm really stuck cuz ive tried everything short of calling the company. I have a lot of add-on scenery, flight plans, and extra aircraft on the game so i really dont want to uninstall it. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would really appreciate it.

Actually Josh (if I may), if you uninstall FS, there is a button that says do not remove all of the Items or something like that... be sure you select that. You can also try RE-installing it, that would make things easier for you though, FS will not be as neat as new installation.
Hope this helps,
Cheers

I uninstalled and then installed the game. during the installation, i was stopped and told that there was a "disk error" where the game had trouble copying the files "scenery.sav" and "world.sav" It said this may hurt the game performance. When i went ahead and installed the game, the same thing happened when i tried to start it as did before.

Do you run FS with a minimal install and have the computer access scenery from the CD or did you, or have you, tried to do a full install of the simulator after the power failure?
It sounds to me that either the FS disc is bad IF it was running in your CD drive during the power failure for a minimal install, or, you have a bad partition on the HD where FS was trying to be installed.
I'm not a computer expert but here are some things I've done to clear those faults:
Run ScanDisc to check for errors on the drive. Run a full scan. It might take up to 45 minutes depending on your system.
Run the DeFrag program to get your HD in order.
I've seen just about every error this 400mHz machine that MS had invented up to that time ('98) and they haven't thrown too much at me I couldn't fix on my own.
Good luck. Hope you get up and running.

Ok, now I'm really frustrated. I've tried everything suggested to me and nothing worked. I've installed the latest version of DirectX, I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game, and I've contacted microsoft and they haven't told me anything i haven't tried already. No matter what i do, the game just doesn't respond when i start it up. I was in the middle of working on my flight video for a 737-800 FO promotion and now i haven't been able to access the game in like three weeks! Can anyone help????

I'm sure this won't be too big a help, but FWIW, I had a very similar thing with my Madden 2005 football game. I inadvertently deleted it from my drive. When I reinstall it, I get to the splash screen and it just hangs. Similar to your problem. I'm thinking registry. Something is still there that's screwed up and interfering with the running of your FS9 and my Madden. Maybe someone with more computer savvy than I have could take this idea and run with it a bit.

Joshua Kropkof, I had the same problem as you did. I am not a computer expert, but if you still are having problems, suggest you try this. Save all of the files that you consider a must, uninstall FS9, when uninstalling, select option of removing all of your saved files. After game uninstalls, restart your computer. I found that this will in fact remove the files that you want removed, restarting system appeared to work for me, because all I was getting was a black screen for about a week. Hope you get it sorted, know it is terribly frustrating. Good luck. Andrew Harris

Have you tried to delete the whole FS folder instead of using uninstall? Remember that uninstall may leave some files behind.

I have, and it works, but I hear that is a dangerous thing to do.
