Pilots,
The Staff of DVA is dedicated to making this airline the best of the best. I am asking for any input that you have on how to take DVA to the next level. DVA wouldn't be here without YOU. Its your airline, how can we improve it?

I know that there was work on an ACARS system, what ever happened to that, it would be awesome!

Group flights are so much fun. I would suggest more of them, starting on Saturday and Sunday evenings between 7 and 9 p.m.

This is tough since so much is done right, but most things in life there are always room for improvement and further development.
Methods to improve communication with fellow pilots.
1) Enhanced Water Cooler to permit notifications when topics are responded to, who is online in the Cooler.
2) Company communication system voice and text (this may be the ACARS referred to above).
3) Private message system.
Improved Fleet and File Library.
1) Organization
2) Search capability
PIREP
1) Auto PIREP filing system
More Group Programing
1) Additional online activities would boost visibility and connect pilots while letting us improve our skills

A professional Flight Assignment system would add to the realism for pilots looking for the "real world experience"
Other than that..can't think of anything

I like the idea of bidding for flights as pilots do in real life. I think it is a good way to move the VA along.

Well, if you don't know when you can fly, like I do, you'd hate to have to wait.
Personally, I feel we need an express PIREP system, when we first go to the site, we can log in, and PIREP our flights.
Also, how about a Google search page, as well, if we need it.

Sounds like a great idea. I have little suggestion though. 777 captains should fly with a dog as their F/O :-)

I like the idea of the pirep program that sends the flight info to the website and updates the roster automatically. I have seen this in a few other VA, and it really makes a difference.
I think it would be fun to offer retro flights, retro groupflights, special flights (retirement, delivery, ferry, etc).
I would love to see a groupflight to VCV or another airport. Group retirement of aircraft.
Pilot bids would be something very difficult to impliment. I have seen many other VAs try to impliment it, to have it flop and remove it weeks or months later.
What about a searchable database with flightplans for use by out pilots.

I like the idea of flight assignment system. I have been with another VA in the past that had an automated PIREP system and I loved it. And what about a place on the web site for company preferred routes to different cities. I think that this would make flight planning a little easier and faster.
thanks,
Brent Cater

Wow, what great responses. Also, what a tremedous difference from my last VA where the self-appointed "CEO" made all the rules and literally told me to stick it when making suggestions.
I'm not big on the "bids" thing. My schedule is kind of crazy, and I never know when I have time to fly. I've gon 10 days without flying, then some days I do several. I also like the total freedom to fly where I want to go. Different experiences and adventures that I choose. After all, this is a hobby, not a job.
The auto pirep is a good idea, which simply means the flights are automatically approved, and the logbook updated.
Retro flights are cool. I flew and logged DC-3 and Connstellation flights with my last VA. It's a great way to pay homage to a company's history (which we do a great job of by adding the 727, L1011, DC-8 to the schedules). I like the VCV groupflight idea. That's cool.
Great stuff, way to go guys.

Nice of you to ask Mark, thanks!
Next time you do a flyin...try this. Have departures from a few different places into an airport rather than everyone leave from one place and fly to another.
Seeing three or four streams of delta planes coming from all different directions is a real challenge for air traffic control...makes life more interesting!
cheers
GD

Auto Pirep is not possiable with the way we opperate. We NEED to approve the pireps, becuse there are MANY guys that fly from ATL-HNL in a 727 MD88 ETC, now thats not fair to the other pilots. We also need to approve becuse some pilot fly the aircraft there not rated for and we reject the pirep.

If we can get the online numbers to increase i would be all for that.

It is difficult to find things that need fixing, when there are so many things going right.
Since the Echo Flight database is a subscription service now, how about including some flight planning links? These could be to another database, or simply to some of the respective ARTCC's or regions. I have most of these bookmarked, and usually wind up going to them for flight planning anyway. But there are still times, when this information is difficult to track down. What I would really like to find, are the real world flight plans.
I'm not too keen on a bidding system, but if one were to be implemented, it should be voluntary, and not mandatory for everyone. I usually take my flights from either the DVA database, or the Delta online timetable, depending on which aircraft I'm going to fly. Since Delta only has, I think, 3 remaining MD-11 flights, I wind up getting any others from the DVA database. I still haven't found how they get the MD-11 from flight 12, back from Gatewick, yet, that would make 4.
I like the retro idea. Flying some of the older aircraft can be fun, like going way back in history for the DC-3. Especially if your panel has the old Sperry autopilot. Nothing digital there.
Just my 2?

There are only a couple of things that I can think of that would make this GREAT VA even better. I think that a company frequency would be great for our online flights, esp. Fly-ins and Groupflights. Also, it would be great if we could have the real world routes that Delta uses on their flights. Just my .02

I think that we already have that. And any one on the senior staff correct me if I'm wrong, but if you have an account with the Virtual Stock Market, you will receive credits from the VA to purchase stock with. At least I think that I remeber reading that when I signed up.

I haven't read the rest of the suggestions which kind of supports what I will ask for. Is it possible to get a more flexible forum software? I've been playing with phpBB (as part of PHP-Nuke) for another organization to which I belong. Would you guys consider using something like that? It's free!
And to be clear, this is not a knock on whoever put this web site together. I think you did a wonderful job. Personally, I just have a difficult time navigating these threads.
Thanks,
Al
