I just downloaded the most updated drivers for my video card.
After installing them, the max graphics quality that I'll get are like the pic that I posted below. I already went through the video card and FS settings and everything is as it was before updating the drivers. I have the same antailising that before: 4XS Direct 3D and the same anisotropic: 2X (also the max setting in my pc)
what I also noticed was a huge increment in FPS ... I got 20 freakin FPS in PMDG's virtual cockpit!! But it looks just awful. FPS are not good if your simulator looks like Nintendo or something.
Also, FS flashes when going from one screen to another: for example: when going to the 'select aircraft' window or when it loads up the flight, it flashes and didn't do it before.
Anyone knows why might this be happening?

hmmm drivers can be tricky. Are you getting the drivers from the right source, and are they up-to-date and fully compatible with your system? Also, sometimes the old drivers interfere with the new ones... Try uninstalling all of your video drivers, get rid of every single one. Now try the new ones, see if that helps.

Thanks Will. The drivers I downloaded I got them from NVidia's website and are the latest version. Fully compatible with Windows XP (which is my current system).
Before installing the new drivers I did unnistall the previous drivers via "Add/Remove Programs" and after that I eliminated the folder where they used to be. ThenI rebooted before installing the new ones.
But thanks for the tip.

Wierd... have you installed all the latest service packs for your version of XP? You could also try installing fresh drivers for your motherboard and chipset. Do you have the same problem in other video/graphical programs?

OK I forgot those details:
GeForce 4 MX440 128Mb
Windows XP service pack 2
I don't know about my motherboard since this PC was made with different parts, what we call 'generic' and wouldn't know about my motherboard's drivers nor brand nor anything.
I do have the chance to go back to my previos drivers, but I'd like to know the source of this problem. I mean, I want to try everything to make it look like before, because now I'm getting 20 FPS in PMDG's cockpit! when I was getting like 7 FPS before.
Now, that improvement looks caused by the antialising thing, but when I had the previous drivers and I used low antialising, I still got like 12 FPS max in the same PMDG cockpit. That's a big difference in performance from the former quality and the current one.

Theres a few things I can think of causing that. Have you tried a lower AA setting ?? The only reason you are getting such good frames, is because the AA/AF settings you put in are being ignored entirely. Even if you could get it to render properly, you're frames would go right back to where they were. If you aren't having issues with your previous set, I recommend you go back to those.

Yup, I'd tried lowering the antialising and antifiltering, I also have tried marking it as "Application controlled" and actually I get the same quality on graphics. that might be the problem Josh, you're right.
any ideas of what can be causing this? A lot of people use hte same drivers and I haven't heard of a game ignoring the video card's settings...

Make sure in your 3D settings for nvidia you have your Anti Aliasing turned on, or your AF turned on, that will get rid of your jagged edges, hopefully that helps!

Even though the 71.89 set "says" it works with your video card, it really doesn't. Nividia added many new things to that driver for GF 6 series users, including HDR and new instructions for their handling of AA and FP Calcs. That could be why it isn't working properly. I would just roll back and not mess with it, because you risk harming your card due to the excess amount of heat these new drivers generate on legacy cards.
