The problem i am having is when i connect online and engage squawkbox, i get a message (error cannot find file icao.dat), assuming that it will correct itself i go ahead and connect to the network. Upon filing my flight plan i get the message( csl_icao.csv is missing and aircraft will not show properly). I downloaded the two files from vatsim and installed them as required, but i still have the issue. I looked at my fs2004 under squawkbox and it shows to have both files in the folder. So, whats next? Did i miss something or should i keep flying around as a Alaskan Airways Captain, in which case i am not? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Martin, make sure that the csl_icao.csv file is in any other folder under the squawkbox main folder. For instance, I have the main SB folder, and then a FlightPlan folder inside of that. I had to copy the csl_icao file into the FP folder as well. SB is going to search in the last folder that it was opened under.
[ex#1: C\Program Files\SquawkBox]
[ex#2: C:\Program Files\SquawkBox\Flight Plans]
I have the CSL_ICAO.csv file in both locations.
Second, the reason you're getting the could not find the ICAO.dat file is because unfortunately, you have to open SB from where it is located. I have tried repeatedly to get it to open from a shortcut (Either on my desktop or the start menu) by programming the "Start In" line, but I get the same message as you do. So I just go into windows explorer and open SB from it's root folder.
Hope this helps.

Kenneth, what you told me worked perfectly. Now if i can just get the flight plan in Squawkbox to recognize my plane. It won't let me change it from a 737 to a crj-200er. Any suggestions there?

Hmmm...did you copy (not move) a copy of the CSL_ICAO.csv file to all folders? The .csv file is actually the list that the program uses to give you a choice in the drop down menu when selecting your A/C.
Can you describe how you have SB setup? Eg: C:\Program Files\Squawkbox, etc., etc., etc.
