well, I don't think there is a "short" manual to the FMC and CMD (autopilot) unit. Basically, you need the F/D on, the LNAV and VNAV switches on, cruise altitude set in the box, and one of the three autopilots on.
The fsbuild stuff needs to be going into your FMCWP\Navdata\Flightplans directory Then on the route page, simple fill in the 3rd LSK (the one that says FP name or something similar) with the name from FSBuild, i.e. KBOS-KATL.
IM / e-mail me with any other questions if you want.

Yeah there really isn't a shortcut, I just took about an hour and read through the manual making notes on a pad along the way and then going in and doing it and practicing really helps, what Geoff said is pretty much what I do as well to get the FMC to fly the plane, but reading the manual will really make you understand the system, and then you will be able to set altitude and speed restricitons, hold patterns and all that neat stuff. There is one shortcut to reading the manual, most of the stuff in the ops. manual is useless except for the autopilot section, and for basic FMC ops. you only need to read the end becasue unless you want to know how to save your own SIDS/STARS. Like Geoff said if you any questions about it e-mail me or post.
