That has something to do with the texture format and the way your video card renders the DXT textures.

it is called Alpha. Its a DXT thing where you can create Reflective parts of the airplane. In your case the whole thing was Alpha'd and that was what you got.

I hope someone does soon. Since I was assigned the B752 program I tried downloading the aircraft from the file library and all of the B752's are grey on my machine as well. No livery on any model. The panel is quite impressive. I had to pull out my fold-out of the 757/767 cockpit to read what some of the smaller panels were.
It locked the machine up twice before I could even get it off the ramp at KATL.
I downloaded the B727 the other night and the only one that shows up in livery is the Air France model. Must be rendered differently.
I sent a letter to my Chief requesting I be kept in the B734 because it's the only Delta jet that shows up in livery. I got that one some time ago from AVSIM.
If anyone could tell us how to fix this it'd be appreciated. My machine is an old PII 400Mhz with a Voodoo Monster 3-D card. It's probably to old to run any of the good aircraft.

I've been quiet on this subject for probably too long. I want to get this fixed, and I suspect it has to do with IMAGETOOL stripping out the alpha layer erroneously when I converted the textures from 32-bit to DXT3. This will be corrected in the next revision of the Fleet Installers.
In order to fix the problem, I need to know two things: 1) What video card do you have? I suspect that this has to do with cards that are not native DX9 cards, since I don't get the problem on my 9600Pro or 9700. If it's based on DX7 cards, I can test on my GF2Ti. 2) What aircraft/textures does the problem occur?
Cheers!

My stock card is the Rage Pro Turbo 2X. My aftermarket card is the Voodoo Monster 3-D.
Problem aircraft:
B727-200 from here. All textures missing except for the '70's Air France livery.
B757-200 from here. That won't fly anyway as my system can't handle the load and locks up FS.
Stock FS2K2 B777, B747, B737.
Stock FS2K2 Grand Caravan 208 and 208 on floats.
The Cessna's, LearJet, Baron and the rest all have colors.

my problem planes are most of the md-88s [xept alitalia], some textures of the md-11s, the 757s and 767s cockpits are weird too.. they seem like plastic and really big.. now i can't tell you my video card cause im in my laptop.. and the computer where the FS is, is downstairs.. and its way too late to go turn it on.. lol.. i bet it's that txt3 texture thing.. cause i seem to have no problems with the 32bit ones.. all the stock aircraft work ok too..

Rolando, sry misread your post above, il bet it's your laptops vid card cause laptops are not the best gaming computers.
Micheal: your problem could be your graphics card aswel, I think you realy have to consider buying some new parts for your pc, you do not have to buy an complete system as it will never be what you wanted (unless you have the money to buy an ailienware of course:) just buy the parts and it is much cheaper and you have a system totaly designed for your needs.
just my 2 cents

lol.. sander you actually got it right the fist time.. i was [and am] righting right now from my laptop in my room.. FS is installed in my desktop komputer in a room downstairs.. [my mom doesnt allow me to have it in my room cause she says that i would never sleep [and she's probably right] ] so i dont know what my video card is.. i think it is an intel graphics bla bla bla.. it came with the dell.. not the best thing i know.. but it really isnt THAT bad.. hey im optimistic.. it could be worse.. i could be 'trying' to fly with my laptop [toshiba satellite 1805-S274].. probably get 6-7 fps in clear skies.. :o/

Hehe, I have my PC in my room and it's probably why I'm almost always UP at 2AM. My wife wants to kill me at times.
Hey Rolando, if anything, check Dell's website for the latest drivers, even if this issue has been fixed. It could'nt hurt to update. Always make a backup copy of your current drivers before downloading new ones.
Take care.

Thanks for the tip. I'm not going to spend any more money on this machine. It's probably half as old as some of the crew here.
It's time for a new machine. The only thing that I don't like about the new machines if the GUI MS software that comes with the new ones. I hate the graphics in the new Windows programs. I'd rather stick with a second edition of Win98, but that will probably be next to impossible to do on a new machine.
I'm thinking of a Dell because I can get it customized and order direct, but I've always wanted a Falcon too but they're pricey.

Micahel,
There is an option in Windows XP to change the entire system theme to "Classic." I can't stand the "candy land" look of the default Windows XP theme so I changed it and it's just like using 98 or 2000.

Micheal, If you want to save money and you know what you are doing why don't you built your own system?
If you let Dell built you a System you wil spend maybey twice as much.

I've considered that before and although I'm not totally computer ignorant I don't know the finer points of how different components will interact with each other, which is the best part to go with this part, etc.
I don't mind spending the money on a already built system so long as it works as it is supposed to.
If I bought a basic system with a decent sound card at about 3 Ghz P4 with 512RAM with say an 80gig drive, what video card would you recommend? The video card worries me the most as there are so many to choose from. I've heard of certain problems with some in the past but I don't keep up much with developments in video card technology.
What about hyper-threading technology that I've read about? Does having this make a big difference in how the system processes video regardless of the card used? What benefit, if any, will I receive from having a computer with HT as it relates to Flight Simulator and the more complex aftermarket aircraft? I'd really like to have some of those airplanes, but I want a system that I can max out all the FS settings on and still keep a minimum of 20-30 frames per second.

As for the card issue, I use a Geforce Fx5700LE ith 256mb of ram and it gives me from 15 to 50 fps in fs2004, as far as i know the ATI Radeon is a verry good card as whell, with the Radeon's i would recommend the highest numbers (the best would be the 9800 pro if i'm not mistaken).
hope this helps you a bit

Is this kind of problem FS2002 related? I have FS2004(why do they call it fs9? its really 10), and I've NEVER had any kind of problem like this on ANY of the DVA stuff.
