I need some advice on what to do in order to optimize my computer. I recently purchased a 256 MB Video Card (GE Force 6800). I have a 3.0 GHZ P4, 120 GB Hard Drice, 1GB RAM Memory. Is there something else somebody would suggest to increase performance.
Once again, thankyou for your time
Great flying
Isidoro

That should do a pretty good job on FS2004. The only things I see that would help any at all are :
Make sure you defrag the drive often
possibly get a 10,000rpm drive
but I think the system you have should work nicely. What dont you like about it???
Which 3.0GHZ p4 do you have??

PCI-Express I hear is pretty good - the chipset on your motherboard - well, the motherboard itself can make a diff, and the memory has different speeds. even the CPUs are not made equal... some have more cache than others, etc.

Intel P4. I should probably also add that I have installed FS Enviroment, FS Sound Enhancer, Ultimate Traffic and I most of the times fly with PMDG 737, 747 and Level D Sim 767. Maybe I just need to adjust the settings on my video card. My current settings are :
Antialiasing ....2xQ
Anisotropic Filtering...8x
Image Settings...Quality
Vert. Sync...Off
Force Mipmaps...trilinear
Conformant texture clamp...Off
Extension Limit...Off
Hardware Acceleration...Single Display mode
Trilinear optimization...On
Anisotropic mip filter optimization...On
Anisotropic sample optimization...On
Triple Buffering...On
Negative LOD bias...Allow.
73.4 out of 110 GB of Hard Drive free.
It's been a year since I last installed my MS FS, would reinstalling it do any difference (installing again all of the add-ons and alternate programs)?
Any suggestions?
I appreciate very much your time and help
Keep Flying

Hey Isidoro ...
I think that the problem with performance is the Anisotropic filtering setting, it's totally killing your performance. Try reducing it to 4X, that will be more than enough to have awesome graphics.
Also, I notice that your Antialiasing is kinda low, which will give you bad edges ... Mine is set to 4xS and performance loss is too low and graphics look awesome, and with your video card, it shouldnt be a problem to use 4xS or even 6X.
Another thing: in FS's scenery settings, reduce Terrain Visibility to the about 100 miles; if you have the bar too far left in scenery visibility, it'll reduce performance and make no noticeable difference. Play around with scenery settings, until you get waht you like. ALSO, deactivate scenery shadows option, taht'll improve FPS a lot.
Other than these, I'd say that your rig is strong enough to give you decent FPS with high quiality graphics as it is right now. More RAM **could** help a bit .... but I don't really know.
Hope this helps!

I can vouch for the defrag too - my system was a DOG about 2 weeks ago - a good defrag fixed her up good as new - well, I need to defrag again... LOL!

Bu the way, I've changed some settings...
Reduced Anisotropic to 4X, but my Antialiasing settings, I only have Off, 2x, 2xQ, 4x, 8xS...
I guess I'll leave it in 4x?
Thanks again!

de nada compadre! cuando quiera ayuda me avisa ....
BTW, leave Antialiasing in 4X, if you still have too many performance issues, lower it again to 2XQ.
1 MORE THING ... make sure to uncheck the mark in FS's Hardware Settings the one that says "Use antialiasing" or "Suavizar bordes" in spanish if that's the version you have, like me :P; or uncheck anything related to sharpen edges... it's right below "render textures" i think
